Not fond of Panerais. I'm good with JLC (particularly their Master series) but am not sure which are within my price range, any particular ones that I should look into? Something a mix of classic/dressy and sporty.

TLDR:
Does anyone know how much the IWC 5001 and 5007 go for? And for a budget of SGD 10,000 - 12,000, what watches should I get?

Details:
I'm planning on getting my first "real" watch (going to be upgrading from a Citizen watch) and thought I should get some feedback before pulling the trigger.

I've looked around for a bit and am in love with the IWC Portuguese (tried the Chronograph 3714 today) - found it just the right mix of sporty and dressy - versatile enough for my needs. Also like a few JLCs but for my budget (SGD 10,000 - 12,000), I think only the Reserve de Marche stands out.

What kept me from getting the IW 3714 was the fact the case was sealed- not a deal breaker, but at that price (was quoted slightly over SGD 10,000), I prefer to go with something with a clear caseback like the IW5007 (that I did not manage to try or get a price for).

Question:
- Any recommendations given my budget and taste?
- Any indicative price of the IW 5001 (out of curiosity) and IW 5007? Wonder if they are within my budget.

Other points of note:
- No Zeniths please, I know the movement is good and the price is great value, but they are simply not my taste.
- No Rolexes or Speedmasters too, find them too common.
- I've tried the IWC Pilot Chronograph but unfortunately it looks odd on me.
- I prefer watches with in-house movements.
- I prefer watches with steel casing with leather straps.
- Will likely be getting the watch from an AD, unless there's some compelling reason to go to the boutique.

Hi there. If you're getting the 5001 aka Portuguese 7 Days, you got to up your budget by quite a bit if getting from AD, as it will set you back by 14-15K+ after discount. Alternatively, you can get BNIB from grey dealers depending on your comfort level, and it will cost around 12-13K.

Speedmaster Professional aka Moonwatch is a true classic, very versatile and you will have tons of options to change to different straps for different looks, and it is also very within your budget. I will prefer to go for the 3573.50 (sapphire crystal front and back) as it is more practical for daily wear and have a display caseback, but it is just a matter of personal taste.

I think you will never go wrong with either. Good luck!

Ok so IWC-wise I guess I'll stick to the Portuguese Chrono. Regarding the Speedmaster, actually that was my first target but after seeing this thread (been lurking for a while), kind of lost the feel as it seems so common.

Given it's a grey dealer, some questions:

• From your knowledge, will IWC honor the guarantee/warranty? From what I've read online, some people report no problems with that, but others claim certain brands will reject it if it's not through their boutiques or ADs.

• In a similar vein, for servicing, will there be any hiccups?

Remember to drink loads of coconut juice or isotonic drinks there. Dehydration there is many time faster n higher than Singapore due to high temp n strong winds.

I heard abt that too... is dubai ideal for kids to grow up?? Always feel dubai more suitable for expats and working adults...

Enjoy your stay! Was in Dubai 6-7 years ago for a conference (otherwise would never go there).
There are a few things to do:
that big shopping mall is huge (cannot remember the name) - the one with an ice skating rink inside etc. Lots of watch shops there selling a good range of luxury time pieces

Do the desert ride but watch out a bit if you're prone to motion sickness - the slopes/ steep inclines on the sand dunes are crazy

Camel rides

Visit the souks - there are also watch shops there

Dunno about the hotdogs - I'm sure you will find them there - haha

To be frank, after purchasing from a AD in the past, I feel that the price premium for an AD purchase could be better spent on accessories like straps and the like.

Well, for warranty purpose I reckon that it shouldn't be an issue? If I am not wrong (Do correct me if I am), IWC's warranty is under Richemont and it is a 2 year international one.

With that said, I do not have any experience with IWC, so, I think it's better for IWC owners to chime in yea?

When the warranty is dated and stamped, it doesn't mean the stamped Jeweller is the grey dealer. The grey dealer could have gotten it from an overseas AD and just resell it at their shop. IWC will still honour the warranty in this case. I don' think the grey dealer can even stamp it since they are not the AD.

Ah that's a bummer, but thanks still!

I guess if this is your first 'significant' watch buy, I can understand your preference for an AD. It sometimes is good to start some kind of relationship so that when you return in future for more purchases (almost inevitable, haha!) you might get better discounts and service when they 'know' you.

It's also good that you seem quite clear on what you want - stepping into an AD also allows you to view and try on many other new models, and you may surprise yourself when you're there - you might end up with something different altogether
