Sure thing!

I'm considering to get it from dangerous9. A little bit concerned about the holes on the strap though.

Generally, when the strap is thicker, we should leave more allowance for the hole to be punched? (E.g. on my 4mm strap, I'm wearing it on my second hole from the top of the strap, should I custom make a 5.5mm one, I should specify to the strap maker to punch it slightly further away from my existing hole?)

Nice strapmaker. Always wanted to get one from him.

Anyway, you are right that you should have a bit more allowance for the buckling hole. But how much is the question. There will be some thickness variation even though you specifically order a 5.5mm thick strap as all custom made straps are slightly different from each other, on the basis that they are individually handmade.

Easiest is to ask for no holes to be punched and once you test fit it on your wrist, you will know the exact location of the buckling hole and get it punched there.

Case in point. My first thin strap, 2.93mm. Did not want to take the risk so I requested for a strap without any holes. Punched it myself after test fitting it on my wrist. Till now, it is still snug as a bug in the rug! :)

Thanks for your input!

I guess I'll take the route of asking for no holes to be punched. However, do you know of any place to get a quality hole puncher though? I do have some where I just bought it from your mom and pop DIY store.. but they aren't working well.. can't even punch my leather belt cleanly which is definitely below 5.5mm..

And yes, I do agree for a handmade (pricey) ammo strap, it isn't worth taking chances with the fitment.

Whole day on the road. Meetings in different cities. Had an unexpected hoot in a small town yesterday, will take some pics later.

You're making me want a 233. Spent some time today looking at 233 pics, posts and vids. It might bore down to 233 vs JLC MC/hometime for next in line watch for me.

And please.....no HFTL Mr T pics yet.

Mm hmm, alum bezel!

The second, banged-up bezel is original to the watch. There are some differences between both bezels: the accent over the "E" in tachymetre, the positioning of the dot in relation to "70"... But most importantly, the placement of the dot in relation to "90" - whether it's a "Dot Over Ninety" (DON), or "Dot Next to Ninety" (DNN).

I don't know what the right values for either bezel are, but as of late, DON bezels placed on ebay were sold for upward of SGD $800-1000. Which is pretty ridiculous when you think about how minor the differences are.

WTF!

I think the price is pretty ridiculous given that it's aluminium and probably tough to authenticate!

anyway congrats on the hoot! the speedy is something that really moves me, even after my carrera and RO chrono... probably the only chrono i'd trade down to after my RO chrono!

No expensive watch to share, only my 15 year old Seiko 5

seiko.jpg

A watch built to last and might outlast some of the luxury watches if given another 10 to 15 years time.

Many brothers here have vintage seiko watches owned by their grandparents.

My late father in law has a 25 year old Seiko 5. Now sent for servicing.

I have this, bought from Self-DIY in Vivocity.

Definitely able to punch thicker straps, like my elephant hide strap, which is about 5+mm thick too.

What I do is that I will punch the cardboard backing, like what I did below the price tag, using all the sizes of the punch. This way I can "test" out the tongue of the the buckle by sliding it into the holes and see if it catches on the different sized holes. In this way, I will be able to gauge which size punch to use. But from what I encountered, most Pre-V, GPF buckles' tongues will only fit size 4 & 4.5. You can use the smaller punch sizes for thumbnail buckles.

Adjustable, cheap & good! :)

I'll get that before ordering my strap!

Now.. if only this thread wasn't such a distraction! I can't concentrate for my finals... Haha! :s13:

Helped a blind man after school today, he approached a guy and he declined to help him so i went forward. Spent an hour helping him do his grocery, banking and etc.

If I knew it will take an hour, I may not have helped him in the first place as I'm rushing to do work. Nonetheless, I didn't regret helping him at all. Glad I did too.

Spoke to him for quite awhile, realised how difficult his life is. Having to commute to work from Redhill to the extreme West by mrt daily without being able to see. And having to do his grocery and banking in a shopping mall filled with people, escalators, turns, stairs and etc.

To us, it is so simple that we dont even give a thought about it. But for them, being unable to see, and have to work and travel long distance daily, is truly respectable to me. Yet, he didn't complained a single bit at all.

And we have healthy people who complained on the smallest thing possible and don't even appreciate their life as compared to them.

Spoke to him really long while walking slowly with him, there's some words that he said that bothers me the all day till now...

Nonetheless, it was really a special day for me. I think he has helped me more than I helped him today...

V nice guy, Can share what are the words he said to you that bothers you till now? TQ

He shared his personal stuff with me and so I shared mine, so abit not convenient to say it out here, sorry bro but what can be shared is below :)

I bought him to a pharmacy as he wanted to get some eye medicine for his mum(kinda fillial guy), the inconsiderate sale aunty there told him something like "EH, you eat this medicine already, wont cure blindness de leh, yours is blindness right? You sure you want anot?" Yet he joked it off with the aunty. Was amazed by how he responded amicably yet I was like WTF stunned face to the aunty..

In no way did he pity himself nor complained about any challenges that he faced during his daily life. Taking everything into his strides.

I tried imagining closing my eyes and doing the things that he have done, and I may not even be so brave and determined to take a train to go so far and work without being able to see.

He have to travel almost 2 hours plus daily, to and fro from work, slowly walking and itching his way back home with the walking stick for a very low pay(helped him with his banking and saw the amount of savings he have..)

Regretted that I did not bought him more stuffs at NTUC before going to the bank with him, only got a packet of oat for him as that was what he wanted..

Overall, he was sharing with me that everyone has their ups and downs. However, what makes us different is how we want to respond and face it.
