Let's organize something at caveau. We can do that:)

When there's one post-June, I'll be happy to join. No suits for me though, happy to be in jeans!

And I will second the GO. Not all Langes are nice in my view. The GO has better dial balance. But then, I am not a fan of dress watches.

Let's set a date then. Wines or whiskies?

I agree with your assessment on the dials of some langes. But Lange just crushes GO in terms of sheer technical excellence

Hi all. Need some advice on buying Rolex.

I know the better place to seek for advice is SGROC, but I'm more comfortable here (read through from part 1 till now. LOL)

So, I am intending to get a black sub-date (getting this term correct right? LOL, else the sub w/o date meme will appear) for my coming birthday at the end of the year (I know still long). I'm actually having a dilemma of choosing either the

SubC or
Series E/X/N

Wanna get the SubC because brand new and partly because of the superluminova lume

Wanna get the series version because it serves more meaning, since I'm buying it to commemorate my birthday (just like yatto-san mindset) but at the same time, im afraid the tritium will corrode the hands and i dont really like that effect.

either way i'm getting one but not sure which one to choose, hence this post.

I know precision deals with vintage watches and its cost around 6.2K for the series (any chance of getting discount there?)

and the RRP for subc is 11280 or somewhere around there. any chance of getting it cheaper?

so if i want to get brand new subc, the following questions surface;

1) does boutique offer discount? and whats the price after discount?
2) AD offer better discount? and price after discount? any SA recommendation?
3) Grey best deal? price for grey? full set? got international warranty? (actually i know very little about grey and what is include in the package if i buy from them)
4) or buy in airport? price wise the best?
5) last one, buy from europe, say italy or paris or london. cheaper because of the VAT(italy) or tax refund (other countries)

Sorry for so many questions. any answers will be deeply appreciated.

My 2 cents:

- Go for a brand-new piece. There is no particularly notable 'milestone' or feature in the 16610 for the series you are looking at, and especially so if you are not a tritium fan.
- Brand-new grey (from a reputable grey dealer that is) is essentially overseas AD piece. No other difference. SGROC would tell u the usual grey suspects.
- Buy in europe is a good option because of the weak EUR but retail prices have been adjusted so the discounts are being offset somewhat.
- Japan is another country to consider. Relatively 'somewhat still weak' JPY and strong grey and Rolex culture.
- HK is traditionally a good place to get Rolex. Someone recently shared an article that retail prices will be reduced in HK so that's a plus too. But bear in mind HKD is relatively strong these days.

Not able to give specifics on prices as I don't track but the way I see it based on your detailed posting, you can probably manage to research more pretty comfortably. Just need to expand your research abit more on current retail prices in the different currencies/countries, factor in FX (be conservative) and a 5% discount and obviously your cost to access to the countries (if overseas) for the 'best' deal, $-wise. Good luck!

Imho, just go for the 116610. The glidelock and ceramic bezel are good enough reasons. Brand new grey should be around 10.5k ( cash payment should be able to warrent some discount) consider watchlink, chuan watch for the usual dealers. Their website is pretty comprehensive :)

Preown or brand new would be another factor as well. Preowned AN series should be 9k plus? Have to check out sgroc for the market price.

Case study. My subC is preowned and served as my daily beater. The GMT2C for my son was brand new grey price. I wanted a brand new watch for him and to grow up with him. No right no wrong. Whatever sings to you and makes you happy :)

Oh grey includes everything unless stated. Ask first if ts complete set. Warrenty is international.

Have fun!

My 2 cents: ...

Imho, just go for the 116610 ...

net net, as a logical solution, i should just go for the brand new one?

price wise, i should compare all ranges (boutique, AD, grey, airport, other countries)

in addition, grey set means overseas AD and should normally include everything else stated. and warranty is international.

so its perfectly fine and cost-logical (i.e. same watch but price differences) to get from grey if i'm really interested in a brand new?

ultimately still need to compare and do market research to source for the best deal.
