Wah. Mine is a Tag. I mean it's not those super high end watch but I don't wanna risk scratching it if I DIY l.

Even watch shops will inevitably leave scratches. The people at Rolex do many watches everyday, and they still leave scratches. Don't think just because they do it often means that they will do it perfectly. If you have ever done it yourself, you would understand that it is a very delicate process.

If you're taking off a metal bracelet, especially for the first time, I'd say there is a 99.99999% chance that there will be scratches. Changing out a regular leather strap on regular lugs (on a Lange for example) would be a lot easier and chances are much higher that the lugs will remain unscathed. Even then, just a small slip will leave a scratch.

If your watch comes with straps that have tool-less spring bars, then yes, the chances of scratchless strap changes are very high. But you'd also need to buy another strap with tool-less spring bars, which is extremely limiting in terms of choice.

I say if you really want to change straps for your watch, adopt a "it's just a watch and a few scratches where nobody sees doesn't matter" attitude. Otherwise, don't touch it.

Yesterday while walking my dogs, my wife suddenly stopped and I bumped into her. My watch hit the dogs' water bottle hanging off the side of her bag and it left a scratch on the bezel.

A watch is gonna get scratched if you use it...

Speaking of scratch. Found a scratch on my mineral glass seiko FFF.

Tried toothpaste no use. About to give up hope and source for sapphire dome crystal as upgrade, found a old $2 daiso rust removal paste.

With nothing to loose I just smear and rub using alcohol swap, few minutes got the squeaky clean sound after all the paste is removed or rubbed off. Scratch is also gone!

I replied her... it's a diving watch. It's designed for sea water...
then she asked: "what if scratch? "

Ya quite fun. U can leave it as long as u want to get a better average. Maybe if got a spare phone or tablet can actually measure over night for the real average.

From what I read, 40sec to 1 min quite good for a ballpark readout .

Maybe handy for buying second hand watches or vintage pieces
