Hi There,

I've previously own a Dell XPS 15 9550. Managed to get a replacement from Dell to 9560 due to overheating issue.

However this issue is still hapenning, and I came across some article that replacement of the thermal pad with artic thermal paste will help in improvement the thermal of the system.

Any recommendation on shop that can assist on this? Or anyone with the similar issue?

Perhaps if you could elaborate on the overheating issue, maybe we can assist you on that?

Yes thermal paste / compound replacement is a solution however it voids warranties.

Thanks for the offer. Basically I've been experiencing throttle whenever I'm playing game. Lightweight game such as dota 2 as well. Even with medium setting.

I've did research which community are suggesting undervolt and thermal paste as some of the solution which may helps. :)

I'm not using an XPS, but thermal replacement helped reduce idle temps by 5-10 degs. All the steps you need to DIY is out there;

Thanks for all your kind response.
To be honest, i am very contemplating to do this. However dell support has not been able to fix my issue.

This is getting really frustrated and I'm starting to regretting getting this unit.

The XPS 15 is always bound to overheat. Putting a 45W CPU + a dedicated GPU + gaming in a slim form factor is impractical. Those hardware is more suited to the form factor of the Latitude 5580.

1) Replace the TIM yourself (Dell won't do this for you)
2) Undervolt the CPU. You should be able to easily achieve a 100mV undervolt
3) Use the Cool setting in Power Manager

So far I've only gamed with Dota 2. The throttle start kicking in around 15-20 mins.

For youtube it's fine. I would say, as long no GPU is invovled, the system is okay.

I've always used Arctic MX4 (not to be confused with Arctic Silver 5). Non conductive so it won't damage any parts even during "accidents". Another one I would use is Noctua NT-H1.

If you still feel nervous about doing it yourself, suggest to go over to fellow forumer Nigel at #02-32 and get the repasting done for a fee. Probably you could observe how it's done so you have an idea of what to do in the future as well.

If still cannot work, sell it in carousell and buy new Alienware much better for long run.

Depends. Just monitor the temps down the road. Once temps go back to the region before repasting, then it's time to apply fresh paste again.

Normally it's once every few years.
