I just got a cpu cooler from sls today, and since replacing it need me to replace the thermal paste,


What should i look out for when replacing the paste?

Heard from my friend that i should not run any heavy load program to let my heatpaste settle in

Nah. Just get some Arctic MX-4, replace it and use as is. I even torture test the cpu to check temp after replacing and found no issue whatsoever in long run (after few months temp is unchanged for my rig)

Your friend is right in a way. It is best to let the paste settle for 1 day. (as even recommended by Gamers Nexus) But for me, I just straight away use my PC.

I recommend you buy Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut. itsmine PC store at SLS has it.

I don't recommend MX-4 because I can see my temps increase over time. Not because of dust since I clean often but because the MX-4 paste dries up after a while.


Been using the Kryonaut one and it hasn't dried up as fast as the MX-4 did. So less changing of paste.


Remember, I use an AIO on my Graphics Card. This produces more power (TDP) than a CPU. And yet, the Kryonaut never dried up as fast as the MX-4 did on my Graphics Card.

I highly recommend using it.

Is not necessary to wait for 1 day. Tgermal paste is not suppose to dry up. Once dry up, you need to re apply.

Just apply your thermal paste, on PC, and use it as per your normal usage.
