Singapore price should be compared with those in Tokyo/ Osaka .
The prices of the food , fruits & properties , no ?

You are like :
...,expect Mao Shan Wang to cost the same either in the Malaysian farms , small Johor town markets or Singapore .
Cheaper when the fruits are in seasons especially from their own Japan farms .

There are S$2 chicken rice & nasi lemak here. My cai png with 3-5 vegetables are $3.50-$4 mostly here.
And show me which parts of Tokyo / Osaka can 300 Yen meals .

My 300yen soba is in Tokyo... somewhere near Ueno...

Can get a meal for S$3 in Japan ?

Fruits cheaper ? Transport cheaper? :o

I am more of herbivore, mostly say no to sashimi .
And most Japanese meals have no decent amount of vegetables.
Ridiculous combination of noodle + rice + meat/fish = healthy meal ?
I ended up always have to top up my meals there with supermarket salad & fruits every night.
Possible, u goto those mama shop or those 24hrs store can buy cheap fruits.

Sent from Sony Z4 using GAGT

either you blind or stupid. there are 300 yen food in Tokyo as mentioned by a few people. and $2 chicken rice? you think you in 2008? now also cheapest $3.50. you trying to bluff who. and even if there is $2 chicken rice, how much rice and how much chicken? probably number of slices of chicken can count with one hand.

up to you to decide. but since you love Singapore so much, don't go to japan thanks.

They still have the imperialist feel over us. Especially the old folks.

The service is top notch. Genuine or not I can't tell. I think some very fake.

Not too sure about this, but when I travelled solo in outskirts, old folks were very friendly to me. They would come over to chat with me during my walks and treks. Not so much felt when I was in the cities. When my husband and I went to this ryokan in the middle of nowhere (inaccessible - must take ferry), service was excellent. The staff (mid 50s lady) assigned to us, tried her best with broken English to communicate with us.

Bro, not sure where you experienced this. I have traveled to JP a number of times, both in the rural and urban areas. Experienced nothing more than top notch hospitality. And it's 100% genuine, unlike what I felt was 'fake' hospitality in Australia, USA, some European countries.

The only issue i have is that some younger staff in the service line don't have a decent standard of English despite the country being so open to tourism. Contrasting this with the excellent levels of English that some of their older staff have.

Even if the service is fake... at least they put up the front to be nice... what they think inside and behind my back dun really matter to me...

i rather served by a smiling and polite but back stabbing salesgal... than a black face foul mouth salesperson... not as though i am bringing her back home... so try not to think too much what they feel behind ur back...

but i did encountered a couple of bad service before... once in a restaurant and once in a hospital... but overall the service i experienced there are really nice... no other places comes close...

but sticking to the topic... yah i think as someone mentioned... the peak train human jam is really bad... on some of the popular station like harajuku... even non peak hours are quite bad... especially difficult if u are in a large group of elderly and children...

1. Japanese depicted in media like damn nice. In truth, only the service line is nice. And that's probably only coz they r paid. Sure, there are nice people around. Some even go out of their way to help. But many on the street will just shove u if walk too slow or blocking them. (not really my fault since people in front of me not moving fast enough too) some even stare at you for no reason (coz foreigner, maybe?)

2. Their recycling, on the surface, has good intention. But I highly doubt its usefulness and I don't see a need for (some) locals to snark at foreigners who put into the wrong bins. Esp at common areas in Airbnb/capsule hotels.

3. Commoners have no etiquette. They say no loud noise yet their kids run around screaming . They don't know how to move in or give people space. Some Knock into people don't apologize. Take up 2 seats on buses with their bags. Recline their seats then proceed to sleep horizontally on 3 chairs on a bus, blocking the only walkway. Also encountered some Recline their seat fully on an overnight bus, then proceed to Sit damn low/forward on the bus seat, preventing the front person from reclining their seat.

Seems to me they only know what is taught to them in school. Cannot think for themselves to be considerate to others.

Anyways, Food there is affordable. 6,000 yen is more than enough for a day if one knows where to find good food. If wanna compare chicken rice, mostly rice and only a few slices of chicken, then 3 bucks soba is Not much worse. I agree salad and fruits are rare. But that's only in town areas. Go rural supermarkets, u get super value for money salads and fruits.

And try some jap grapes. Grapes in sg will just taste like sugar water.

most japanese youngster can only read english but cannot speak.

the school nv taught them to speak, mostly written.

thats why they had trouble speaking n matching the word together.

but if u write n let them see english word, they can understand one.
