I have a question about 2nd driver.

I am the main driver of my car. If my wife just passed her test, must I put her name in as 2nd driver of the car? If her name not in the policy, is it illegal for her to drive the car?

If not illegal, what are the implications? I guess if she get into accident, I cannot claim for my car or other party's repairs?

your wife will be an unnamed driver in the policy. and taking into account that she just passed her driving test, the excess when you want to claim on your insurance will be very high.

check through your policy on the excess applicable for "Elderly or Young or Inexperienced" drivers.

Of course driver B is cheaper. based on driving experience, only NTUC income will give Driver A a premium. Revoked licence also sticky issue with certain insurers.

More information needed for quotation like gender, registration year for car, marital status, etc

i have a query regarding car insurance.

i'm a 30 yr old singapore pr, converted my driving license last year feb. however, i obtained my license and was driving in malaysia since '98.

i'll be getting a new car soon, presumably honda fit. would the insurance company quote me based on my total number of experience or would they calculate based on the conversion date to sg license?

also, would it be recommended to put my gf as named driver since she'll be driving as well?

my wife is convert lic too and she did ask her country of orgin to provide the NCD.

Most insurance com back SG allow that and they do give the NCD based on her overseas driving experience.

So i assume the insurance com will quote you based on your ttl driving experience. (do ask your malaysia counterpart/insurance com to prove it.

There are so far 2 insurance companies that I know that can take in consideration of Malaysian driving license. They are AIG and NTUC. The rest of the companies will based on the date you converted you SG driving license.

As you are buying a Honda Fit, I suppose you buy from PI. Hence, insist that the PI get these 2 companies quotation for you.

As for adding your girlfriend as the name driver, it has to depend on whether there will be an increase of premium if you add her in. If she less than 30 years old or with lesser than 5 years of driving experience, you premium will most likely go. If she just get her SG license not so long ago (less than 3 yrs), your premium will shoot up a lot.

So ask your PI to quote for you with and without name driver.

Hope it helps!!!

Yeah, car insurance these days are not cheap... At least AIG still have 12 months interest free credit card installment for POSB/DBS/UOB credit card, plus key replacement and roadside assistance cover....

One thing to note for AIG, the premium is cheaper for a married person compared to singles. In the events of accident, they do not check whether the person is married or not.... ***cough cough***, if you understand what i mean :p

There are 3 types of car insurance
-comprehensive
-Third party fire and theft
-third party only

Third party only will only cover your obligations towards the "third parties" These will also include the wall of the bungalow you bang into. This is the most basic coverage required by law. It does not cover your own vehicle damage in the event of an accident.

Third party fire and theft or TPFT will cover your vehicle if it is damaged by fire or stolen in addition to what is already covered by third party only. However your own vehicle is also not covered for damages from accident.

Comprehensive includes what the other two type of car insurance covers and also cover your own car claims due to accident. This is the most common type of car insurance taken up and if your car is still on hire purchase, the finance company will insist you take this coverage.

when i want to speed and squeeze, sometimes i think whether if i damaged the other car, is it worth it.

i always keep a distance if i wanna speed.

I have a question. For a company car, normally, what would their insurance be like? eg. named driver or unnamed driver. My dad is driving a company car, and when i want to drive it, he forbids me always as he says the car insurance does not insures 'any driver'. :(

for buying of 2nd hand cars, does the insurance need to pay up front first? or it has already been included into the price of the car?

All cars for sale, regardless, brand new or 2nd hand, do not include insurance cost.
Insurance premium must be paid before the insurance certificate (or cover note) can be issued, and before car can be driven out of showroom.

Hi, I think the company is normally insured under a named driver, thus the insurer is not liable to pay for a claim arising from an unnamed driver.
So your father is worried that if a claim arised from you driving it, the company would have to pay for the charges and get refund from your dad?
Hope it answers your question. Cheers ;)

Hi All

I was advised by an agent to include NCD Protector when renewing my insurance.
From what I understand from the 1st post, NCD Protector is only
effective when I want to renew the policy with the same insurance company.
What happens if I renew with another insurance company and I included NCD Protector in this policy and during the coverage period I
got involved in an accident. Will my NCD be protected ? Currently, my NCD is 50% + 5%.

Thank you.
