Curious why will u guys pay near 1000 for an unknown brand laptop? Readme is maybe good as for phone but laptop? There are mainstream laptop for this price.

To be fair, locally Xiaomi and Huawei laptops had the same kind of acceptance journeys. Even now, they aren't the top choice for many users.

What's more interesting is that these Chinese laptops appear to be copying the Apple design language somewhat, and to some extent their product ecosystem too.

personally am brand-agnostic

tbh, not easy to find a i3 1.4kg laptop with backlit keyboard, 1440p screen, type-c charging, for $799 from traditional brands? closest i can think of, maybe a lenovo ryzen...

Most laptops that you see out are supplied by OEMs. This and what you commonly see from Xiaomi is no different. It may look different outside, but runs pretty much the same. If RealMe offers local warranty for their laptops, then I feel they are no different from the likes of Asus, Gigabyte, etc.

There are price and spec difference between the 2 offerings.

Lazada cost $969 intel I5 8GB memory 1 year local warranty.

JD.com cost RMB 3699 (S$780 exclude GST , shipping) intel i5 16GB memory, no local warranty.

If you are considering china version, you may wish to double-check on windows.

Bought a xiaomi china notebook via parallel importer a few years ago, came with a Simplified Chinese Single Language edition of Windows. This version of Windows does not natively allow installation of display language packs for other languages. Had to find workarounds.

That's correct, most are made by ODM actually, not OEMs.... in fact 4 in 10 laptops are made by taiwan 廣達 (Quanta) alone, so its just snobbish factor in play niah, in short >75% are taiwanese ODMs based in China and the rest are chinese ODMs...

The only really in house makers are Asus (under Pegatron which is their own subsidiary)/ Acer (under Wistron which is also their own), and Fujitsu which still have sizable mfg lines in Japan.

Its kinda of a quirky experience when touring such facilities in China, when u have Dell production line on 1 side and then HP on the other. It's the same with LED TVs.. all build by the same EMS manufacturers and then slap on the exterior and brand on the final production stage
