Does anybody know if my 70L back pack will pass? Previously when I do back packing, I actually purchase check in cause I'm afraid it won't pass. It's like big to the extend that it's above my head and ending is near my butt area. It's meant for fully back packing trip without luggage.

Advice please!

1. can your backpack squeeze into this hole?
you are definitely not allowed to hold it in your hands during the flight. so it has to be in that compartment or checked in.

2. is it very much heavier than 7kg?
if it it slight over 7kg, most full frill airlines usually will let it pass. but if it weighs 30kg, you've to try your luck.

3. are you on budget airline?
these airlines follows the rules/regulation like bible. if you break them, they are more than happy to charge you the extra. welcome on board.

70L is unlikely to pass. They are usually very tall and can be easily spotted by ground staff. Not to say it definitely won't pass, just that it's unlikely.

you almost certainly will fail. my friend brought a 60+ for the last trip and we had to repack his stuff into our bags to convince them to let us through. the flight was only half-filled, so there was plenty of space. had it been full, we would be forced to check it in i bet.

work on minimizing the stuff you bring. right now, i'm down to 9kg for travel from 0-30degrees in the same trip, and 3.5kg of that consists of camera equipment.

Nah, wasn't at Queensway yesterday.

When's your trip? I have a friend in Bishkek who'll be there till August. Met her in Kazakhstan.

How are you going from Kashgar to Osh? Also from SG to Kashgar?

I'm now looking at the map again! So tempted!

flying to kashgar via guangzhou on china southern airlines next weekend. 10hr transit. probably gonna be quite drained right at the start of my trip. :s13:

from kashgar to osh it's gonna be a mix of cars, horses and trekking. 7 of those nights will with spent in yurts with 1 night in a guesthouse. pity i wouldn't be anywhere near bishkek at all or it would be cool to hang out with your friend. there's a 50-50 chance my friend might fly in to osh on the days i'm there to explore the city together before he heads off for the rest of kyrgyzstan. don't think he has made any reservations or plans yet.

You know CZ gives a free hotel stay for transit > 8 hours? Btw, passengers aren't allowed overnight at the airport (Baiyun).

You booked the guesthouses/yurt, etc?

Didn't know that! How do I sort that out? Gonna be nice to be able to pcw at least cos the transit is 10pm to 8am. :s13:

Yup. I emailed the community based tourism coordinator to sort it out. Way cheaper to make my own way to Osh via public transport but I really wanna do the nomadic thing. He basically clobbered together an itinerary for me from the standard tours they did.

When you're travelling full time or doing an extended backpacking trip, you're likely to find yourself carrying you backpack for a long time.

I went to look at the Cabinzero bag. quite a clean looking bag, and pretty spacious inside.

A good buy at S$89. 44l.
