I know its virtually impossible for models like daytona, batman or hulk. I'm asking only about the specific models that I am interested to get. The models that I want I know they are popular as well, but not as exclusive as daytona sorts, that's what I'm asking about.

Thanks for all the advices, seems like there is no chance for a black sub from ad for someone like me. I guess I will thick skin a bit and pop into a rolex Ad and ask whenever I'm at the mall.

I have been popping by T3 AD since 2016 until they know my name and wave "no" at me as I walk past the shop. I would buy any steel sports from Explorer 1 up. Nothing for 4 years.

I went grey in 2016 for my Daytona and I thought I was crazy paying the lower end of $20k for it. I'm glad I did cos I've enjoyed the watch thoroughly. Non of the AD's who "took down my name" every rang me, and I've gone to every single AD.

Even Patek ones, despite the fact I've bought a Nautlilus before the hype, non have called me back for any steel Nautilus or Aquanaut.

If you want to actually have something nice to wear, there are plenty of other brands of watches that you can buy immediately at the AD, at a discount even.

If you only want the "hype" watches, Sub included, and don't want to pay the grey premium, don't get your hopes up.

Or maybe you have lots of time and have the gift of the gab, you can try hanging around the smaller AD's, make friends, buy durian, write long essay....etc. Maybe the boss will take a liking to you.

But then again, maybe not.

Yeah I agreed. Just walk into any AD along the way n put ur name, never try never know. My situation same as urs I guess, I die die refused to go grey cos I find it ridiculous to feed those flippers, it's like why we the genuine legit buyer want to openly fall prey to the flipper?

Meanwhile, I will just take the waiting period to save up more dough. FYI, yrs back, my elder bro's 40mm black sub took him 5 months+ which many said very lucky liaoz. I honestly dun understand what does 'luck' have to do in getting a WATCH cos I was in my early thirties, more into cars n girls rather than a 5 figure "watch" but now I understand that ordeal as defined a TIMEPIECE.

I started off 2 mths+ visiting ADs to enquire for ex-stock but obviously, it definitely won't work that way so I start putting my name. My poor wife walked with me until she siam any malls with a Rolex AD in it *LOL*. Literally ALL the ADs told me the exact same story, the wait is indefinite as the list is ***** long especially for SS n pro series. Never I expect the call came 5 days later cos I had already mentally prepared myself the wait to be months or maybe even never. Guess I was much more luckier than my elder bro but then again, his is the super highly sought after sub whilst mine is the humble DJ.

Admittedly, I did put up my interest for the sub-date n DJ with the sub-date as my 1st preference but the latter came 1st. When I collect my DJ, I asked abt the sub again, my AD just shook her head n said the queue is really long until see no end. She secretly told me, her own clientele interest list had already surpassed hundreds since day 1 of the release, that is not including her colleagues' lists. She even told me she got a client msging her to place order for 5 subs lor. The situation is so bad that they themselves have their own internal "interest list", she have to wait for 2 of her colleagues to sell before its her turn to. If u asked me, I think it's those who somehow managed to get the new sub are than the real lucky ones.

Good n sincere salesman will advise u to pick an alternative choice, but some ADs I visited, the salesman is simply knn attitude problem. Its like they sending me a morse code "Dun bother waiting bro, no chance one."

Keep an open mind bro, once u placed ur name, its pretty much life goes on liaoz. Stay true to ur heart n dun sway. I almost got swayed towards GS n Omega but my wife just asked me are those really really really what I want?

As one bro here told me, no point waiting aimlessly, life is too short just to wait for an unknown.

Recently I have hit a big milestone in life and decide that i want to buy a rolex black sub 124060 or 126610 for myself to commemorate.

I understand there is a wait list/interest list(imaginary list?) after reading this forum. I don't wish to go down the grey market route, only through AD. I've been to 2 ADs (thg vivo and kkh) and they only told me im registered on the interest list with no eta in sight. I won't consider myself someone who buy a lot of luxury watches and I don't mind waiting.

May I ask all the experts, realistically is there any chance I can get a black sub (date or no date) this way?

Actually can get from waiting list one. But the person taking your name need to be manager level and willing to push for you. Means your purchase history with the AD salesperson need to be solid one.

If you want to celebrate this milestone with a watch, you need to cough up the premium at the grey dealer for the sub or any of the Rolex sports models, or get another brand.

Realistically, you will never get on the real waiting list without a substantial purchase history. The hard truth is even if you go knocking on AD's doors every now and then, chances are almost zero for you to get the sub.

This is true.. my first Rolex is a explorer 2 and it's for $6000 from a grey watch shop at Golden landmark. Milestone watch must available immediately and not wait and wait.

The current sports model shortage works out great for everyone except the consumer.

Rolex can move their difficult to sell models, ADs can shift watches that nobody wants like the AP Millenary, etc - and people are doing this all for the supposed benefit of getting on the Rolex sports model waiting list. In the meantime, grey dealers are making mad bank by selling popular models at a markup.

Only the consumer loses out because they either have to buy a bunch of crap watches that they don't want for AD "relationship building", or buy what they actually want at a markup at the grey dealers.
