Hope I dun sound suaku. I want to get a datejust for my wife for our anniv. and this is my first time buying.

Is datejust 36 a good size for a lady?

Since no history and familiarity with salespersons, what is the best approach when going to AD to buy at a good price or ask for discount without feeling I will be eaten or shoo away?

Should I try out airport or parkway AD instead of central areas for maybe more friendly salesperson?

The price on web is about $14,000.
Does she prefer a bigger watch? My wife tried dj36 but find it too big. So we are looking at dj31. I think there are some dj31 stainless steel off the shelves still.

But like hwaa said, if you don't intend to start a watch journey, just get it off grey. Dj31 can get below rrp.

Just sharing my personal side on this, I have the same thought on getting a "proper" watch for my wife couple of years back, we visited the AD to try and get a feel on the size, surprisingly my wife choose the 28mm two tone datejust instead of the boy size or men size 36mm. She mentioned that the 28mm feels more elegance and feminine. So that is how the size is decided, next on is the pricing. Based on her choice its around $12-16k brand new depending on dials and she mentioned don't mind taking alook at the grey and preowned market because she felt that the pricing is kinda high, so we went preowned and gotten quite a good deal for a champagne diamond dial datejust ($4,000) and transferred the saving into the house funds.

So bring her and let her try the sizes out before pulling the trigger.

Got my wife her first Rolex recently too. Some factors to consider, the size of her wrist, skin tone, her dressing style, does she plan to wear it daily or only for occasions? My wife initially wanted a 26mm/28mm but found it too dainty and doesn't suit her dressing style while finding 36mm is too big after trying mine so ended up getting a 31mm for her.

If it's not a surprise gift, perhaps can bring her around to try the sizes and designs as pictures may look good but after wearing it on the wrist, it's not as good.

Going grey means buy from reseller, grey dealer
There’s no alternative .... if you want 1 watch, get from grey.

Grey = third party shop outside of authorised dealers

Personally, I think 31mm is a good size for women. Too small and the dial will look very cluttered. My sisters all feel that my 36mm is too big, they settled for 31mm which I feel has good proportion in terms of bracelet width, dial diameter, even the date wheel too. Even my very petite gf wear liao also no problem.

If it's for your wife, I guess it wouldn't be bigger than 36mm. 36mm stainless steel datejust availability not great at AD, two-tone still ok ok. 28mm and 31mm datejust in general should have more availability. Even if the particular model you want is not displayed, you can go into the ADs and ask and I guess, make it known that you are here to buy and not look see look see.

You can probably go to the rolex website and choose which model you want in particular (with the dial and bracelet selection). So you can directly tell the AD what you want

Thanks all for the explanation. May i ask which trusted grey shop to go to?

And what is the main difference between going to AD vs grey shops? Of course besides the price between them and the availability of the watches.

Take a walk at bencoolen (Bugis) or Chinatown People park complex. Look see and try.

the difference is the name on the warranty card, that's all. but new card no longer write name. anyway difference is AD, u purchase under your own name, grey is not your own name under official AD record. warranty wise no issues.

trusted grey, see carousell can easily spot those reputable grey with many high turnaround, high stocks of rollies and high reviews.

there are dealers who don't have a shopfront also, they operate on their own.

Rolex more mature.
Girls see brand. Don't see watch making.
Cartier is branded jewelry. Rolex isn't.

Cartier made the first pilot watch ever.

It may be a Jeweller, but it is worn by kings and queens around the world.

What are some reliable grey dealers?
I know Chuan watch and bright times.

Any reliable ones from Carousell?

Besides the 2 that you have mentioned, you can try Ricky @thefinesttime, Desmond @kbluxury, Darryll @trackingtime

Inside the same bldg as brightime @ The Bencoolen, there is timestory too. Can find Mr Ong.
