In Jul 2019 I got my DJ41 at grey at $12,930, a price slightly higher than the RRP then as of at Jul 2019 - S$12,710. Now RRP has rose to S$13,270.

All fluted bezel with jubilee bracelet DJ41 are in demand now too. It’s a very classy watch to match with office wear. If lucky, once in a blue moon, famous grey dealers will have it at around S$15,980 as of now. Blue dial fluted bezel jubilee bracelet is the most desirable configuration. Next should be the Wimbledon.

That’s the way it is for Rolex (and other top brands) now. If you really love the brand, it’s very mind draining to wait for local AD to ‘call’ us. I hate bldg a r/s. For me, if I wanna get a particular model, I’ll start monitoring the local scene at Carousell for a few months. When I deemed that the price has ‘stabilised’/dropped for that model, then I just straightaway buy it from grey.

We laymen really can’t play this game with grey. They buy in bulk - sports model, other desirable models, plus some not so desirable models, as package from ADs (local & overseas).

Found the price list for Rolex Day-date back in 1995 (This is the double quickset movement) Just sharing. :o

1995 Pricing for Day-date (USD)
18238 Yellow Gold RRP $15,900
18239 TRIDOR RRP $20,450
18239 White Gold RRP $17,350
18206 Platinum RRP $36,500

While these are the RRP, discount given at that time for these are 40% off. (If I recall, so that brings it around $12-$14k SGD for the 18238 / 18239.)

I would say buy what you like. You are looking at lost in resale value only.

Sad to say, nowadays with all the AD/grey dealer patterns it feels like you’re being a sheep to buy a Rolex.
Somehow I felt they have backfired and the brand has been cheapened by all these efforts to make it more exclusive and inaccessible.
I’d much rather get omega or some less nonsense brands that still give a **** about customer service and experience.
