Submariner has a rich history and are currently hot in demand. Though dwellers might have more discount than subs for brand new pieces, their used value as of now are the same. But still, Rolex sports watches are generally quite safe in terms of resale value. In terms of popularity, who knows, maybe in 2 years time explorer IIs might be more popular than subs and dwellers. Just buy whatever sings to your heartstrings. my 2 cents.

I used to own a white dial Explorer II a few years back. Sold it after 1 year and now I'm happy with a D-series Sub with date.
In term of resale value, sub with date holds the value much better than other Rolex sport watches, except Daytona.
If you're ever thinking of selling your watch in the future, may as well buy a good quality 2nd hand Rolex. You can easily save 2k of retail price.
I lost $1.5k on my Ex. II as I was bitten with Panerai's bugs during that period. Lesson learnt.
