I work in Beijing and Tianjin. I would suggest that you either take a direct flight in, or transit outside China. The flight delays in China are very unpredictable so don't spoil your holidays over a missed flight.
Scoot flies direct to Tianjin, but sometimes it can be exp so check out Xiamen air which stopover (not transit) in Xiamen for just 1hr.

Thanks for the info! i didn't know about the mrt line from airport to train station. Do you know how long does the journey take and what is the time for the earliest train ( i an taking scoot and it's freaking 9.20am)? couldn't find these info on line.

Tianjin-Beijing bullet train is very convenient.

The line 2 mrt is open from Tianjin airport to Tianjin train station, direct at abt SGD1+.

Once reach train station, go up and buy a ticket (SGD10+) with your passport, no need to prebook, there is a train every 15mins, travel time is 35mins.

Once in Beijing, take the MRT (fixed SGD0.40 anywhere), or grab a cab only if you got big luggage, it wont be exp. Remember mrt is always faster in Beijing, the traffic jam is really really terrible.

Drop me a PM if you wana roam around Tianjin, I can guide you over a beer. But just 1 day is enough, don't need to stay over.

I see the Airport metro station just opened in September, nice. But nowadays I don't take Scoot anymore (only took it once).

I just fly to Beijing on Malaysia Airlines pretty cheap.

MH now cheaper than dirt. Even a flight o HK is more expensive than a flight to Beijing by MH.

Generally speaking, flights to China destinations on MH Network is cheap.

Nowadays all my flights are on MH unless it's to a destination that they have no presence.

MH flies to PVG, PEK, CAN, XMN, and HKG in China.

Yes the MRT line 2 from Tianjin airport to Tianjin train station will be available at 920am.

But wait, why your Scoot land so late?? Usually it arrives at 730am...which flight no is that?

Mrt journey from Tianjin airport to train station is about 30mins.
Bullet train journey from Tianjin train station to Beijing south station is about 30mins too.
So with abit of walking and finding your way, you can be in Beijing within 1.5hrs of landing in Tianjin.

I fly to Tianji for one night as transit via Air Asia from KL. Nothing much except for their ongoing construction of the fake European buildings. I would rather spend the time on Beijing. Try Air China. Their flight fares sometime comparable to Budget airline.

At least some of the structures are not fake, they have been there since the olden days when the westerners were there setting up shop and trading. Of course they have to maintain and restore some of them.

I stayed at The Astor Hotel, Luxury Collection Hotel, when I was there for 1 night last year. Stayed in a new wing. Lots of officials have stayed there before including Pu Yi, the last Emperor of China.

is it possible to reach there in time using the high speed intercity railway?
e.g. hotel in beijing -> beijing south railway station -> tianjin station -> airport shuttle -> tianjin airport

sounds difficult [and dangerous if any delay during anyone segment]; if not, maybe i'll just book flight to fly straight to beijing...

First high speed train leaves Beijing at about 6:13am and arrives in Tiajin at 6:46am. Time to get to the airport, by bus or taxi? Meaning you have to wake up at 5am and get to the train station (Beijing South). Is it worth getting up so early?

The flights on Scoot to Tianjin ain't that cheap either if there's no promo. It's around $414 on CX to Beijing and around $5xx to $6xx on Air China. There's red eye flights on CA, so you don't 'waste' any time (sleep on the plane).

did a quick check on cathay pacific; fares ended up around $1k. searched air china yesterday, also around there [non-stop flight though]

maybe cos i'm looking at upcoming flights [next week], so prices are high...

I won't do this. Timing is too tight, train stations can get crowded out of a sudden.

Btw what airport shuttle are you referring to from TJ station to airport? I don't know of any reliable ones. I would rather take the MRT.
