Time for an upgrade?

Hi, it have been 6year since I brought my first computer.

I have changed my gpu to r9 280.

Would like to know if there is a need for an upgrade as I have been playing games on very low settings but still having lags.

PUBG isn't very optimised yet. I don't think your hardware is necessarily the problem. With my setup, that game still isn't buttery smooth as should be expected.

edit: although if you play at 1080p, it tends to be quite CPU-bound.

heard that the game is more CPU intense than GPU.

should i then upgrade my CPU only? any suggestions?

If upgrade CPU, you will need to get new CPU, motherboard and ram. Unless you can find second hand CPU of the same socket.

It depends on your budget really. I would check the used market for Haswell CPU+mobos, you may snag a good deal.

Otherwise if you're looking to future-proof a little, go for something like an i5-7600K (Z170+bios update/Z270 mobo required for OC-ing) or a Ryzen 5 1600 (B350/X370 mobo) and some fast DDR4 RAM.

Your GPU is more than capable of handling PUBG. With GPU prices and stocks where they are today, it's not a very good time to buy a new card :/

PUBG frame rate drops happen pretty often, it could be due to some bottleneck from cpu or could just be the nature of a beta game. Just monitor your gpu temps for any potential throttling.

If you're intending to upgrade your whole mobo set, it'll cost quite a bit and might be tedious if any compatability issues arise from current hardware.

My GTX 1080 sometimes experiences drops to 60-70 fps on mid high as well.

Would also be good if you could monitor your in game FPS and see if the drops are sudden or consistently low.

2400 really getting old already. I find myself having to run my 2500k at 4.5ghz reduce bottle neck in games like bf1. Go monitor ur cpu usage in game using afterburner overlay. If u see ur cpu constantly over 90%, upgrade gpu also little use
