Time for refresh?

Hi guys, would like some advice as I will be WFH indefinitely probably until Q3. Say, if I'd like to build something or refresh my current PC, I guess Ryzen is the way to go? My current specs as below:

Processor: Intel i5 6500 * Change to Ryzen 3300? 3600?
Mainboard: MSI B150M Bazooka+ *Change to MSI B450 Tomahawk?
Graphics Card: Palit GTX 1070 Dual
Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 2 x 8GB 3000mhz
Display: Acer XB271HU
Storage: Samsung 850 Evo 250GB
Slave: WD Black 1TB
Casing: Corsair Carbide 400C
PSU: Super flower 550w Leadex Silver

Thinking of getting a bigger SSD as well. Inputs will be much appreciated. Stay safe guys.

You should consider at least a Ryzen 5 3600. This should be a good upgrade at the mid tier level CPU. The Ryzen 5 3600 should be an upgrade from all perspective, including gaming.

Bout 10% increase in pricing compared to January I believe. Might I suggest a 570 motherboard instead of 450, given that AMD has more or less said that they will not support 450 series boards with next gen Ryzen?

Alternatively, if not in rush, might wanna wait till 4th quarter when all the new stuffs are anounced/launched

Thank you! Well, if I do manage to score some attractive deals, I may proceed cos it's a good lull period to do this upgrade. No rush at all but I just have this itch to overhaul and catch up on some recent newer titles.

nah, b450 will be supported, just not necessarily on zen 3 launch day. anyway if buying zen 2 already, not much reason to upgrade unless zen 3 is really that good.

msi b450 boards are pretty good from what ive heard, with the tomahawk being the best all rounder. so if ur budget allows getting the tomahawk would be a good idea.

also ur choice between 3300x and 3600 depends on your workload. if primarily for gaming and day to day use, get the 3300x, but if got productivity workloads like rendering or video editing get the 3600.

i would also recommend upgrading ram to at least 3600mhz speeds, or at least try to oc ur current set of ram to 3600mhz, to make full use of zen 2.

Just did a recent overhaul on my aging Intel i3570k to Ryzen 3600 + Msi b450 Tomahawk max, thus far the raw performance & value is exceptional.

Can drive my 34" ultrawide @ 1440p with high/ultra gaming setting w/o any bottleneck of my graphic card - 5700XT.

Some minor complains are the Ryzen 2 cpu is very aggressive to trivial load which leads to higher temp, thus will need several minor tweaking to power plan/fan curve profile to run it quietly.

AMD Ram overclocking will also need some tuning as to run it as the stated XMP spec for 24/7 stability. I got 4 sticks so if you are running at 2 may have lesser issue.

One last thing if you are doing RGB, do take note the board do not have aRGB ports, only have RGB ones.

Nope, did my upgrade abt a week into ** since expecting to WFH for extended period of time.

Parts mainly sourced locally from Lazada and Shopee from usual SLS shop/distro like media mart, pc themes, corsair, vii pc etc.

One good tip is to look for voucher and cc promo to utilize which can bring down the price quite substantially.

I got it from Lazada via Vii PC, CPU + Mobo bundle is $509 then add in Rams and casing to make it $800+ as to utilize the $40 off cart voucher + shop free delivery discount ard $13+.
