Coincidentally or otherwise, after my Mac OS was updated to the latest version, when my Time Machine tried backing up, I get these 2 messages.

Now neither the icon for my ext HDD nor the Time Machine icon appears on my desktop.

How to solve this problem? Do I need to reformat my external HDD? If so which one because my WD MyBook Studio comprises of 2 physical drives set up as RAID 1.

likely yr HDD has bad sectors. check with SMART tools. or just format see if problem persists...

So i guess its HFS+ format just like my imac's HDD then. But how do i format as RAID 1? I went to WD support page & it only talks about formatting in mac os extended journalled or case sensitive journalled but nothing about option to select RAID type if any is needed.

Looks like time to get new HDD. When i tried running disk utility again it cant even run. Keeps loading. Once i unplug the HDD its ok & disk utility pops up right away.

Damn weird, yesterday can still run & first aid did not detect anything wrong. Except time machine keeps saying backing up 2.5 GB of 8 GB & after half day its still 2.5 GB 🙄

Problem now is i cant even format the external hdd before disposing cos disk utility cant even run once its plugged in! 😵

OT a little, WD & seagate are both ok brands right? For external hdd. Or is there a brand which is more reliable?
