Time to upgrade??

Hello, recently my desktop start to give problem.

Last time play COD still quite smooth all this. Then recently Crash Liao then keep lagging in game although my settings is the same. Then keep crash after two-three games but lagging badly in game

Usage more to RPG games and FPS game.

MOBO: z370M
CPU: i5-8400
GPU: gtx 1050 Ti
Ram: 16GB

Thinking to get a change
CPU: i5-9600K / AMD? But not sure which one
GPU: rtx 2070 Super

Issit better? But I abit worry my mobo cannot handle if were to change? Any recommendations?? Thanks in advance!!

Both processors are using the same socket you can use the same motherboard. It would seem that you need to identify the root cause. It is possible then even changing your CPU and GPU might not fix the issue if either one is not the root cause. Sometimes it could just be the harddisk, a ram issue or a setting in bios/windows.

By the looks of things your system should have been purchased somewhere in the last quarter of 2017 or later. Therefore I would not bother upgrading the CPU/motherboard. I see that your motherboard can support up to 4000MHz DDR4!

As someone else suggested you need to troubleshoot the issue as there is obviously something that is failing and I have a strong suspicion that its the GPU.

What I would do if I was you is remove your GPU and use the in-built GPU and then stress test the system. IF the system is responsive and no issues observed then it confirms that its the GPU. In that case just go n buy a good GPU that addresses your requirements

IF its still acting up, then next thing to try is removing 1 stick of RAM assuming that your using a RAM KIT and stress test again. Repeat for the other stick to see if you are able to reproduce the lagging issues.

before do anything .. unused programs or files delete then re-apply new thermal paste on your cpu, if your cpu cooler is AIO closed loop then could be cpu cooler le.. if you have stock fans laying around can try use stock fan see will improve a bit not .. if can then just change cooler

problem with AIO is if the pump become weak, your cpu heats up and you will lag and might crash

another things to take note is maybe hdd too much things cluttered , can try disk defrag.. and lastly try clean up pc dust.. too much heat also will make your computer lag

update your drivers also before try to buy new parts..

to be honest, cause after i clean my pc up dust free they start giving me problem.. lol

even you clean properly and no speck dust.. the pump failing your AIO cooler cannot keep up the demand of cooling your cpu properly and will lag your computer.. try check with cpu-z de temp .. anything past 50 degree at idle then is something wrong with your cooler le

i see quite a few case of my friends all use AIO close loop.. pc lag or even overheat after a few years of using due to AIO cooler..

So far I see the temp never pass 50 so I presume should be safe..?

I'm still using a 6700k OCed to 4.6Ghz with 2070 super. Getting 120fps with settings on high in Warzone - 1440p. I also wanna upgrade but waiting for AlderLake(10nm) next year with next gen tech like pcie4 and ddr5.
