Hi, the wife wanted to visit her friend who live in Nonoichi that is 15mins train ride away from Kanazawa, Ishikawa prefecture.

We will most likely stay in Kanazawa because there is no airbnb accomodation in nonoichi.

Planning to go in April next year. I checked tripadvisor and I dont see many interesting places nearby.

The plan will be: fly to Tokyo, walk around tokyo for a few days (inc. Disneyland and disneysea coz we will bring our 5 years old girl along) followed by Shinkansen ride to kanazawa from tokyo. Will return back to tokyo and fly home. We will buy 7 days rail pass.

We are planning 1 week to 10 days trip but if there is nothing much to see in Kanazawa, at most we will stay there for 2 nights.

Any tips/suggestions are welcome. Thank you.

Hmm I'm not sure why you would say there's nothing much to do in Kanazawa. Would you be driving? If yes, you could head out to Noto Peninsula. Many attraction spots are located around the coastal outline of Noto.
To name a few popular locations - Chirihama Beach Driveway, Wajima morning market and Wakura Onsen.

Many visit Kanazawa mainly because of Kenrokuen. There's Kanazawa Castle Park and Omicho market. How about Hiyashi and Nishi Chaya districts and Korinbo? There are hands-on experience workshops for kids and adults in the Chaya districts. Or day trip to Shirakawago and Gokayama?

Ah thanks for your info. I did checked tripadvisor for some popular attraction in the area.

I will not be driving. Will depend on public transport to get around.

There's daily sightseeing bus services Asaichi-Go (English speaking guide) that brings you to Wajima. Likewise for buses to Shirakawago and Gokayama. Starting point is from Kanazawa bus terminal. Wakura Onsen is located along Nanao Bay. Direct train via limited express to Wakura Onsen is only about 50 min.

Kanazawa is nice. Remember to visit the wet market for fresh sashimi.

Can go for a day trip to Shirakawa-go. UNESCO heritage site.

Kanazawa is a small town with rich history...

It also well known for it fresh seafood from Sea of Japan....

U need to hv " art factor " or love for seafood to really enjoy Kanazawa...

Since u r travelling with a five yo kid....

Tink the activities in the city itself can cover u one full day...

Nearby places of interest many bro n sis had advice.....

U can also read up on kaga onsen,

kenrouken garden is really beautiful.

other than that, not really much.

takayama, alpine route - suggest you stay at Toyama and then do the daily travel.

Hi Thwysg,

I ried. But they only give me standard answer. Even the Shirakwago tourist information...standard answer.
It's difficult.

I once read somewhere in TripAdvisor that most lodging places in Japan would prefer booking via phone or fax, not by email. How about trying Gokayama? There's gassho houses as well.

I had my booking done in End May for Dec as well. By early june, I had trouble trying to change the schedule as most places already fully booked.

Maybe you can try googling and find those that are not listed on the hotel reservation website.

When I email Japan guest house and Shirakawago information center and they told me in May and they told me it's too early. Ask me to check in August. I tired asking again few days back and they say no rooms available.
