Tips for upgrading a haswell i5 build

No GPU,sold my 1050 a week back, thinking of getting 1050ti or 1060 3gb
2x4gb ddr3 ram
Samsung evo 850 250gb

Hi, I am consider to upgrade my PC to either coffee lake i5 or ryzen 5 with a itx build. I am playing on a 22" 1080p monitor, not gonna upgrade to 1440p unless the price is right. Therefore I have 3 choices

I have 2 choices
1) upgrade to ryzen 5/coffee lake i5 itx build
2)change my mb and case for a itx build

I have a question
1) how does a i5 4570 holds up in late 2017?


Games I play at 1080p : league of legend, witcher 3, GTA 5,overwatch,raindow six, csgo,PUBG and maybe buying rocket league

you might be better off spending the money on a better gpu than upgrading the whole platform. 1060/1070 will be enough for everything u do

the i5 4570 still holds quite well for gaming. And on top of that you are playing at 1440p, you need at least a GTX 1070 to play ultra 60fps. At 1440p, GPU is the bottleneck, and thus the i5 4570 can still hold on its on.

U need to upgrade Memory to 2x8gb DDR3, sell off 2x4gb, Upgrade gpu to gtx1060 3gb and u are set. Windows 10? Please fine tune Windows as well.

I see. 1060 seems good. 1070 seems a bit overkill for 1080p

1440p monitor is quite expenisve leyh, I bought my 1080p at <$200 2 years ago. now 1440p seems so expensive

I got mine for ~$320 from tmall.
I suggest selling off your monitor in carousell to make up for the money you would need.

Altho expensive, 1440p is really worth it. Be it Gaming, productivity or media. The overall experience is just better. Especially if you're coming from 22" to 27".

The first video looks at FPS on a range of CPUs an GPUs. at 1080p. 1080p is a constant in this benchmark video.

TL: DR there is actual difference in FPS if you pair a GTX 1080 with the lowest cpu in the benchmark. In this case the CPU is the bottleneck. But with a midrange card, like a GTX 1060, the GPU is the bottleneck.

The second video uses Vega 64 GPU as the constant, while variables are CPU and resolution. Note that at 1440p, FPS across a range of CPU is more or less the same, indicating GPU bottleneck.

At current lineup of CPUs and GPUs available right now, anything at and above 1440p, you choice of processor don't really matter as even the most powerful GPU, the GTX 1080 ti is the bottleneck.



So if you have a cpu that is a few generations ago, you are still quite ok, provided that you playing 1440p and above.

But then again, high FPS wont really matter if your screen can only output 60fps. It will be just one less thing to worry about (unless you are playing games at ultra in 4K)

buy 1070, 16GB RAM and a good 1440p monitor. you are set for another 2 years. i chose 1070 because your game list is quite intensive for 1440p. if you are sticking to 1080p, 1060 is enough.

I feel your rig is still capable for games. Just upgrade your graphic card and you are good to go. If you need more ram, you can consider getting additional ram, but it really depends on the price. Otherwise, I feel 8GB is sufficient.
