You can't set so many limitations and expect good surround. You either use pseudo surround or a soundbar and expect less.
You can also use ceiling mounted speakers but the results won't really be good.

A nice write up on what is a HT BYPASS:

I have a Denon A/V receiver hooked up to a 5.1-channel speaker system. The setup works fine for movies, but every now and then I want to listen to good ol’ stereo recordings ( I have a modest collection of CDs stored as Apple lossless audio files). I am tempted to purchase a high-end integrated amp for just this purpose. Which gets me to my question: Can I hook both my receiver and the integrated amp up to my front L/R speakers?

A My advice: don’t. There are other, more elegant ways to do what you’re looking to do. Integrated amps with a home theater-bypass feature are a great option for those like yourself who want to integrate high-end stereo playback with a conventional surround sound receiver for movies.
Basically, home theater-bypass is a stereo RCA jack input on an integrated amp or preamp that hooks up with the main left/right outputs on your A/V receiver. When you select this input, the signal will bypass the preamp’s gain controls, letting you use your integrated amp purely as a stereo amplifier without having to worry about adjusting volume when watching movies—the receiver’s own volume control takes over that function. Then, when you select other components connected to your integrated amp, such as a turntable, CD player, or external DAC, its volume control will operate normally.

Need some advice here.

In a dilemma now.

Currently using Denon AVR-1912

1) Upgrade PS4 to PS4 Pro - so requires 4K pass through receiver
2) Since going to upgrade receiver, I was thinking why not get one with Dolby Atmos for future proof
3) Wanted to buy Onkyo TX-NR686 but the height of the receiver is too high. Cannot fit into my cabinet. Even if I try removing the legs, there wont be sufficient airflow and receiver will overheat. I had my Denon blow off twice already and repair cost was high.

I need advice which is the next best receiver around 161cm in height and comes with Dolby Atmos for 5.1 setup (I have KEF speakers currently) and also 4K pass through.

For a typical 4 room bto, does it make sense to get surround sound? Looking to get soundbar + wireless rear speaker e.g Sony or nakamichi or avr with speaker and subwoofer (maybe denon and some bookshelf speakers. Any recommendation? Budget 1-1.5k. Likely to pair with a LG 55C9.

This Singtel sponsored HT system is a wonderful example of how NOT to do it

The surround speakers are too high, don't use two identical bookshelf speakers placed horizontally and the large front speakers with unequal boundaries is a no no.

Using HT speakers for karaoke is also a big no no.

Probably done by AV vendor who are not specialized in home theater setup.
The poor chap just roughly mentioned what they are for but
it is not "consumer advice." in my POV.

If want to setup, best to understand what you need:
- Like do you have Dolby Atmos contents than do a setup.
Some just stream netflix or andriod box, contents maybe
in either stereo or Dolby Digital.
5.1 setup will be fine in such cases so 5.1.4 isn't necessary.
- For Karaoke best to have a separate system as well as proper
speaker for it like what you mentioned.

Best place to seek advice would be Adelphi for home theater setup.
