To upgrade ram or not?

I have an old pc with 2gb ram running accounting software on Windows 7 32 bit.

If i upgrade my hdd to ssd, does it mean there's no need to add ram? Because since it can utilise a faster pagefile/swapfile on ssd.

I don't wish to spend too much because this pc is still running E6800 series Intel duo core processor.

The main problem is your 32-bit Windows. Because of that, you probably can use 3.5GB of RAM at the max.

Using your SSD for page file seems like a bad idea especially if you already expect many read write ops due to insufficient RAM. SSD NAND has limited write cycles and intensive and frequent writes will kill it fast, but still should last you 3 to 5 years under the worst condition.

Just my superficial comment. Real life result and performance may differ.

May I ask that account software what's the ram usage like? Always consume 2GB and above? If this is so u can only look into 2nd hand buyer or overseas buyer for the rams, since the DDR2 is rather too old already.

It doesn't matter. Ssd is always better than hdd even when plugged to sata2 ports. Personally had one in my old x58 rig.

More responsive especially during bootups and programs loading. Previously I would try to delay or avoid updating windows since they took up some time to complete. Ssd helps to reduce time wasted while waiting for the pc to be ready.

well maybe u can open up your case and check if its using DDR3 ram. if yes, u can still buy it at any shop, but best if u can get a manual and check if not just buy a 2GB stick and hope it works.
