Thanks for highlighting the specific location :)

Oh and Shake Shack fans... you can have your lunch/dinner next to the gingko tunnel too.

Shake Shack? Can go to other locations. Think it’s gonna be a long wait over there. Just like Luke lobster rolls. We went to the one at Yokohama, no queue. Walked past the one in Harajuku, long queue.

Got to go off hours too... just eat middle of the afternoon. No queue.

Oh I see. Not sure about other locations but we prefer not to queue hours for Shake Shack and wait for seats. Have tried it a few rounds before - only when there’s available indoor seats and not much of a queue. Queues are worth only for local food stalls (longest wait 2.5hrs for Narikura - no more next time in winter, way too cold), not fast food, that’s us. ;)

Ebisu is good.. less queue..as you mention, they are busy but queue is 2-3ppl at most thats where I grabbed a bite during a previous trip.

The one at Jingu Gaien gingko tunnel area seems to be a lot more crowded.. since the location has nice views of the trees.

LOL I also queued over an hour for another place, Nakiryu before.. sometimes I think its more worth it to come in half hour before such stalls open than to queue and hour or two when the main crowd is in.

Please share where you are planning to go? Or at least field reports. So far I got Meiji Jingu mae, Todai, rikugien, yoyogi park and Hikarigaoka Park. Overall more ginkgo than maples.

I'm on my way to Tokyo now. Will be there till 22 Nov.

Have quite a number of places on my list for hiking and the koyo!

Some of my places are too far from Tokyo.

Those doabale as day trips from Tokyo that I'm planning to go are the Yoro Valley, Mitake and the Todoroki Valley.

guys/gals, Mt Takao or Hakone better ah? comparing in terms of koyo, general amenities and more "worth-it" to go.

in terms of travelling cost, im covered with JR pass. Able walkers, amateur film photographers, shoppers (though i think nothing to shop there haha), foodies

hakone of course by a mile.

hakone is higher in elevation than takao if i am not wrong so tend to be cooler.

but do note hakone ropeway is down for repairs till next year.

The ropeway is down again? Last I checked it resumed operations on 26 Oct but just can't alight at owakudani station. May need to reconsider if both train and ropeway are down...

Hakone as the others mentioned. More touristy and relaxing. I think hakone-yumoto station the old st there can shop shop a bit, got snacks and souvenirs.

Takao nothing much to buy at the train station. More for hiking. Anyway, avoid weekends for both.
