Some comments here really made me 😂.

For me. Once my airfare ticket bought. I will start to book for accommodation. Choose those with free cancellation. Even it is 4 to 5 months before my departure date.

for many tourists, going on a holiday is often to fulfill a certain fantasy or image they have of the place or of themselves.

many tourists are willing to pay high prices to stay in expensive ryokans, 5 stars hotels, etc to complete that fantasy

likewise, there are also the other extreme end. some tourists are willing to rough it out in internet cafes, wet tents in the nowhere in shikoku, sleazy love hotels, privacy-less capsule hotels to experience the "reality"

and for some tourists, they do not consider accommodation as part of their holiday experiences. so it is strange for them why people are willing to waste money here.

i have friends who don't consider food as important. bread and cup ramen is sufficient for them.

different strokes for different folks really

Perhaps bedbugs & pests are something that are not encountered at all even for the cheap accomodations in Japan? Which may be why lots of people dont see a need for hotels.
For some reviews I read, people did complain about thin beddings in hostels. If there are bedbugs, people will think twice before putting in reservation. I took out one reservation from one place due to a comment on itch from beddings once.

There are pros and cons (noise, location - especially if too close to red-light districts), so cheap doesn't fit everyone. So some people will still need hotels over cheaper accommodations like hostels or internet cafes.

I feel that the point of a holiday is lost if someone has to save so much to the point of eating cup ramen for meals. Convenience stores have so many other kinds of food like onigiri and bentos that are sometimes on discount, those are good options too.

But yea, to each their own. No right or wrong for things, just only regrets for people who don't think about what they really want before they go on a holiday trip overseas.

I dun think it's wise to bring along bermuda, u are definitely wasting your luggage space. For the past few days the temperature reading for Tokyo city area is around 5-7 degrees & my Instaweather says it's feeling like few degrees lower. For instant, the temperature reading now is 5 degrees but Instaweather says it's feeling like 3 degrees maybe becos of the wind speed of 8km/h.

Peepee - Can you write a brief review on Washington Shinjiku Annex when you can find time please? I will be going there on 6th of April.
