Yeah i dun just read the news. i actually live in Tokyo. TS is asking about Tokyo and not Japan in general. Even if you gave me money I wouldn't go near the daiichi nuclear plant.

But as for Tokyo, I dunno what farmers you are talking about. You do realise the Tokyo that tourists flock to is largely a wide expanse of dense concrete buildings?

You know, the usual shyt happens after this kind of stuff..

All the tiagong, friend of friend of friend, conspiracy theorist etc etc etc suddenly all came out..

Gynae in SG suddenly knows about radiation..

The list goes on..

Ok.I saw the student bag costs 200sgd and was told inside have steel. In case earthquake they use it to cover their head.

Since it my first trip to Japan Tokyo, can anyone recommend a hotel for me and which place of interest to go. I don't really like those books of interest that was too commercialised.
I got a lot of places to recommend but:
1) You are on a family trip, so I don't want to tekan you.
2) Question: Do you know how to speak Japanese?

All my trips used to be photography trips so it involves a lot of nice places which no one wants to go. Trips with friends involve a lot of walking. Trip with spouse involves a lot of shopping and the amusement parks and 1 or 2 side trips that are pretty far off the beaten path but really fun. But the downside is the huge luggage I have to drag around.

Always cater a trip for the weakest person in the group or the person with least travel experience.

Your colleague lies to you... :s13:

If really radiation poisoning from eating something from Tokyo, will be world news... if serious until can cause hair drop and it happened last year, the patient most likely passed on within 6 months.

If u can see those tourists getting sick after visiting Japan, then those are kenna extreme high doses of radiation liao.
What u shld be worry is those small amount radiation that have a long term effect on your body.
Last time those pple visit JB all said JB very safe, then when their cars got stolen, all lan lan suck thumbs.
Water got radiation and mercury.
Take aeroplane will kena cosmic radiation dosage.
Sleep on bed will kena cardiac arrest and die silently.
Run 2.4 will kena cardiac arrest and die instantly.
Go reservist can kena barrel explosion and kill you.

Might as well go and die better. Zero problems.

Hair dropout means dunno kena how many REM liao. Endstage liao. Will be surprised the liver isn't glowing at night.

Anyway I visited in 2012, my son born in 2013 although I suspect my son has psionic powers due to the exposure, I won't know until he reach puberty. Otherwise he is very healthy including his thyroid.

Those bags (randoseru) can cost more than $4-500 easily because the good ones are handsitched leather. Can buy cheapo ones also that are mass produced if you shop around.

These "colleague" stories are damn lame. Every time someone tells them to me, I will ask them to trace to the specific person. That specific person will never exist. Always friend of another friend of another friend.

I give you a better version, I've lived in Tokyo with my family for the past 4 years, and one of my kids was even conceived here. I am a researcher and there are members in my research group working on environmental and water quality. If its really so dangerous, you think I will still hang around here with my family?

Besides Tokyo is more than 200km away from the Fukushima nuclear power plants. Atmospheric radiation is definitely not an issue. Radiation level in Tokyo right now (previous hour) is 0.03 to 0.05 uSv/h. According to NEA, radiation level in Singapore at 4 PM, 26 Nov 2015 is 0.1 uSv/h. Maybe you should come here for holiday after all.

The remaining factor is food. All supermarkets have to label their product origin down to the prefecture. Besides, the food safety standards here much more stringent than most other parts of the world including Singapore.

I think that anyone that is going to Japan or is living over thereit has to recognized that there's indeed a contamination issue in Fukushima prefecture and the government is struggling to deal with it...especially in disposing the contaminated soil and water...for the whole of Japan..I guess that no one really know what are the levels of contaimination...so recognizing there's a problem and then evaluate the risk whether it is big or small is the key here for individuals....in my opinion.....it's careless to just say that's not an issue when the fact points otherwise..

The half life of radioactive isotopes is a few decades...it doesn't mean that there's no issue now means that nothing will happend in the future when the contamination manifest as cancer or mutation of new borns....

I'm not discouraging travel to Japan...in fact I've been there every year since 2012...however...it's just careless to say that there's totally no problem when the problems that Japan is facing is so well
