From comingsoon.net:
Tom Cruise stars with Olga Kurylenko, Andrea Riseborough, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, and Melissa Leo. The film is based on the Radical press graphic novel by Joseph Kosinski and Arvid Nelson. Kosinski directed the film with a screenplay by William Monahan, Karl Gajdusek, and Michael Arndt.

Oblivion is described as "an original and groundbreaking cinematic event from the director of TRON: Legacy and the producer of Rise of the Planet of the Apes. On a spectacular future Earth that has evolved beyond recognition, one man’s confrontation with the past will lead him on a journey of redemption and discovery as he battles to save mankind.

Jack Harper (Cruise) is one of the last few drone repairmen stationed on Earth. Part of a massive operation to extract vital resources after decades of war with a terrifying threat known as the Scavs, Jack’s mission is nearly complete.

Living in and patrolling the breathtaking skies from thousands of feet above, his soaring existence is brought crashing down when he rescues a beautiful stranger from a downed spacecraft. Her arrival triggers a chain of events that forces him to question everything he knows and puts the fate of humanity in his hands."

The film will be released exclusively on IMAX on April 12 and will go wide on April 19.

I came out of the screening with a grin. Oblivion was good. So good, I was mesmerized from start to end, and was rooted to my seat throughout. I didn't want it to end, and dreaded as the minutes ticked by to the inevitable finale. It had everything I hoped for in a science fiction film, and more. There was of course the genre elements, a steeped emotional and romantic core, plus a mystery that played out without having to spell everything verbatim in chronological fashion, keeping you wondering just what had happened to give it its premise.

Hmm... no love for Morgan Freeman. He acted in this movie too, no?

It was enjoyable. At least the movie showed all the way to the end unlike some directors who leave u with no ending.

Ya, good movie.

There is a bit of everything (sci-fi, dysoptian future, love story, plot twist, hero) without being to messy and losing the plot. If there is anything to complain, I thought the pace could be slightly faster.

But sure a lot better than the recent run of the mill flicks.

Some spoilers included ...

Oblivion has a few strokes of geniuses but ultimately it is a mixed bag due to the rather conventional plot that reads much like an algamation of movies like Moon (clones), Star Wars (the climatic show down with the drones), Independence Day (destruction of the alien forces) and Mad Max (the post-apocalyptic world). There is also not much of a mind-boggling concept here that can be used to engage its audience in fervent discussions except for the final revelation which has its impact greatly reduced if you have seen Moon.

Considering the epic scale of the calamity caused by the invasion, the writers have opted to tell the story on a more intimate level by focusing on Tom Cruise's lead character, Jack. This is good as we will come to appreciate his struggle and sacrifice better but it also means that there will be severely under-developed supporting characters, especially Morgan Freeman's Beech.

Director Joseph Kosinski continues to show his flair for the visuals after his last directing stint on Tron Legacy, resulting in a truly breathtaking cinematography and the haunting movie score is more than deserving for such an average movie.

I was expecting something more from Oblivion but instead I was treated with mediocrity with a lazy rehash of ideas. Perhaps Tom Cruise will do better with his next movie, All You Need Is Kill, another rehash of ideas originated from Groundhog Day in a sci-fi setting. But at least that is adapted from Hiroshi Sakurazaka's sci-fi novel.

Saw it in the cinemas... dun waste the money on ever-rising priced movie tickets... wait for the bluray... not even sure if it's worth for collection..

The scenary/CG is quite nice... however..

Pace is quite slow until a point that I thought the story wasn't going anywhere except to see tom cruise and female co-star doing maintenance missions everyday...

Not that exciting show and the ending is quite weak.... it's more like a B-grade movie to me... cos there's only 4 characters acting in there... Tom Cruise
Olga Kurylenko, Andrea Riseborough, Morgan Freeman

Just my 2 cents...

some plot points im wondering about...

1)
im just wondering, is the alien that dumb to let jack inside to the core even though they can detect he is lying?? n the whole defense only got 2 drones??

2)
and in the end, julia meets another jack, the no.52.. so shes gonna fall in love with him again? even though all clones, but its damn weird. what if all the clones come looking for her???

1) Being an alien that claims to be god or a creator of life, it will definitely feel vast superior and thus arrogant to the lowly human beings. Since it doesn't know about the existence of that nuclear bomb, it will never believe that Jack would have the ability to destroy it.

2) I think Julia fell in love with the first clone (can't remember his number) as he is different from the others. Since he is the first to "awaken" and feel his soul within himself, he is able to live out his memories by reading and building that house by the lake and thus feel more real to Julia than merely a clone. There is no indication that Julia will fall in love with #52 but the ending is left open.

I agree.
Rather disappointing and predictable movie for me, even though I knew nothing about this show.
Credits goes to the music and beautiful landscapes/CGI.

I'd give this a 6 out of a 10 - mildly entertaining with some brilliant cinematography, but a story that had too many plot holes and a script that could have been tightened.

I guess they screened this ahead of the summer as it would get lost among the blockbusters.

What is the name of the song being played by the girl at the 'retreat' by the lake? I have hear it several times before but never got the title.

A Whiter Shade of Pale. Here's an improved version of the song (by the original singer):

The original version is here:
