I'm nearly 50s.
I did x-ray, my knees are not in perfect conditions. Hence there are some grinding of the bones. Minimal pain.
I avoid playing sudden impact exercises like football, tennis, basketball. These are terrible lifetime sports for most people.
Running and climbing up down of stairs are fine for me. They are my regular activities for the past 7-8 years.
I introduce strength training, swimming and cycling.
Also keep BMI in the middle. Heavy weight adds strain to your knees.
I tell you I can feel my knees are stronger now.
