I just bought two 3.5 inch 2TB Toshiba hard drive today from Tradepac. One of the drive has very loud clicking sound and is not detected. I tried plugging into different sata ports already. Still cannot detect....so this one should be dead right ? The other Toshiba drive was detected but when I transfer file to it, its very slow like 20MB/s, then it will drop to 5MB/s. I tried different sata ports and even swap sata cables. Still the same. I try on my older dual core PC too and still the same. Even my external WD drive can transfer file at 80 to 90MB/s. Is Toshiba hard drive really this slow ?

Clicking HDD is definitely dying. If a HDD clicks, I would immediately RMA, or dispose if out of warranty.

A slow HDD (over SATA) is also a sign of dying HDD.

I suggest you exchange both within the 7-day period.

So Toshiba HDD is not suppose to be slow ? Is it my super bad luck I get 2 spoiled Toshiba HDD ?

Your 2nd hard drive have the same problem as mine. From 20mb/s drop to 4mb/s. Today I went to exchange but the guy from tradepac test it and didn't have such problem and able to transfer 100mb+/s. He said maybe my formatting got problem. Came back and test still slow speed. Now I start to wonder it's my com or the hard disk have problem.

Is the source drive from which you copying file from fast ? This is how I tested mine.

External HDD transfer file to Current Seagate HDD in my PC I get speed from 80-90MB/s.

External HDD transfer file to 2TB Toshiba HDD, I get speed of 20MB/s max.

I have a primary drive (os) seagate and a secondary drive wd. Both of these drives transfer to each other 70mb/s. But when either of these drives transfer to toshiba it will transfer max 20mb/s just like yours.

But this same Toshiba drive works well when they test at the shop ? This is so weird.
