Cool thanks. If I had known (why have the same model number but different specs?!) I'd have bought it when I was in Melbourne. 6gb ram is tiny though.

Good enuff for me, cos my previous lappy was a 2006 intel centrino, 1GB ram, 64MB dedicate ati graphic with 40GB IDE HDD.

this is a huge upgrade compared to my last..

btw my 2006 is still running fine, i love toshiba. hahaha

just got deal of the year from Amazon cyber monday for US$720 instead of USD$1k for i5 6gb ram. Sitex selling for $1699.

Really carrot heads for the toshiba asia distributor! As well as most PC parts.

I am using a Win7 version upgraded to Win 8.

Also upgraded the SSD to 256GB (mSata) and upgraded ram from 6GB to 10GB.

It runs well but there are some things that bugged me:

- if you're upgrading to Win8, I would recommend a fresh reinstall. I tried to clone my disk over and there were some issues with partitioning in Win 7. There is the hidden recovery boot etc. Caused me alot of grief. But I already started installing and using the machine in Win7 so bo pian unless I wanna reinstall. There is a page on Toshiba's website where you can download a Win8 installer to help you download all the Toshiba programs (you will need it to access stuff like the Fn keys).

- Wear and tear on the machine happens fast. Compared to my MB Air, this machine is more fragile. Already the keys look like they are worn. Also, there are minor scuffs on the palm rest, screen bezel. Slight scratch on screen. Be careful when you place any keyboard protector or cover. There is very little gap between the screen and the keyboard so if there is even a speck of dirt, closing the lid will mean you scratch the bezel and screen.

- Glossy screen angle. The screen sucks. Very washed out colours. Limited viewing angles.

- Sharp edges on the LAN connector. This sharp edges keeps catching onto clothes, my bag and my neoprene cover causing damage.

I am using a crumpler 13" MB Air neoprene sleeve and it works well.

I do like the machine in that it's really light. I managed to game a little with some basic Steam games too. But noisy fan kicks in.

Honestly, I think across the board, computer and accessories prices are much more expensive in Singapore as compared with US, even after factoring in the exchange price difference, plus shipping and insurance (if you are kiasu enough).

Back to the Z930, I noticed it's shortcoming, especially on the keyboard portion. At the same time, after carrying it around in my backpack, my Z930 is also starting to warp on it's back, especially I lie it on a flat surface, one of the corners is not flush to the surface. Not sure if anyone has noticed it or am I the only one facing with this issue?

As for fan kicking it, not just playing games, but when some of my scheduled maintenance tasks kicked in, the fan will start to spin. Needless to say, without a dedicated onboard GPU, playing games on Z930 sucks...

Like Shawn, I have also recently upgraded to Win8, but I went the simple way. Total wipeout and start with fresh install... Drivers which I have downloaded from Toshiba UK works perfectly, especially the touchpad drivers. Multiple fingers gestures work fine after you get used to the sensitivity... although the glass clickpad on Apple is still the best...

The Z930 doesn't wear well at all.

Mine was bought in September. With daily regular use (not abuse), the keyboard looks really worn out. The letter E key dropped out and can't be fixed back but Toshiba refuses to fix it under warranty (apparently keyboard fault is 'user's' fault). I had to put superglue to affix it back.

One spot on the magnesium portion wore out exposing the black underneath. Alot of minor surface scratches on bezel and around the keypad. The display developed several white spots. The LAN cable port has such sharp edges my neoprene sleeve has a hole from where it kept getting caught. I had to make my own cardboard cover to slot into the LAN port to cover the sharp edges.

Mine was bought in Australia and international warranty is troublesome (have to take it to Kallang and leave it there!). So would I buy it again? No. I moved from a Macbook Air and would probably get an Asus or back to Mac.

I think the Z930 is mainly for office work and games are not advised. I have been using it for 1 year plus and there is no problem as such. I am pretty satisfied with it. We have 3-4 units in our unit and so far all are ok, expect for a WiFi issue on one unit, which the service centre replaced without too much fuss..
I feel if you dont abuse the unit, it will behave properly ;)

My recommendation is for all who plan to buy Z930-xxxx model, u should seriously consider to get the new Samsung Series 9 13.3" premium notebook NP900X3E-A05SG.

This set is extra S$100 than the current one selling at best denki or even courts Z930-2021 or 2035 i5 model depends on where u buy. at $1799 although is a 2 years warranty. To me it's enough as warranty period.

What's the point having 3 years warranty if the set material is prompt to wear and tear and the manufacturer warranty doesn't cover.

Yes NP900X3E-A05SG 1.16kg is only 4GB Ram but I've installed quite a number of applications and it's still having a less than 5 sec boot up to windows 8 and shutdown.

I've used sony vaio Z in the office before, I it like but it is thick, I think no choice since the model about 2 years ago.

I've consider Z930 model since last year Q3. But because I always felt Z930 is very fragile on all aspect, I was waiting for better built one until I just say it beginning of April 2013. After tested and get the feel of it, I bought it because I know this one is what I'm looking for. X1 carbon is more heavy of 200g so I'm not considering.

Full HD LED Display (1920x1080)
Anti-Reflective better than the Sony Z and Z930.
The whole notebook chassis is even better than the 2.
Only 1.16kg
The notebook flipping display screen and casing is much better than them. Especially Z930, it looks like it's not stable and very fragile.

To me having a inbuilt Ethernet & HDMI is not important as I hardly is going to use anyway.

Buy faulty Toshiba Portege Z930

Hi Guys,

I had a Portege Z930, there is a small portion of the lappy component fault and I want to buy a faulty Z930 Unit from any of you guys for replacement small component part. I really need to repair this lappy.

About the faulty Z930 pricing, just drop me a PM.

Hopefully some1 still keep the faulty notebook and sell it to me.

Really appreciate.

Thanks.

Best Regards,
Jacky
