I normally do not lock my phone with passcode or touch id
I set the touch Id to download apps from the App Store. But I need to seed a passcode to activate Touch ID.
Now I need to enter the passcode to unlock the phone. Is this normal?

If I'm not wrong the passcode you set is the key for the encryption of your touch id or something one

Passcode is a backup for your TouchID
and everytime you restart you phone
you must input your Passcode

So if I did not set my Touch ID to unlock the phone, then I shouldn't need to enter my passcode too.

If you did not setup or disable Passcode
you do not need to enter anything to unlock your phone

You can have Passcode without TouchID
But TouchID must be completed with Passcode

You need a passcode with Touch ID because every time you reboot your device or fail to unlock with Touch ID within 5 times they will ask you for your password
