Toyota Wish @ $101k?

Contemplating getting the Wish now at 101k (thereabouts). Car has lots of space, FC is relatively good, and being a Toyota its reliable and if needed, repairs and parts are easily available and relatively cheap.

It's mostly for my wife to use as a point A to B car, and for weekend use around Singapore, and to Malaysia. We were looking at SUV's but the Wish at this price point is pretty attractive. Any opinions on the car, or any alternatives around the same price point?

May also take a look at the Subary XV at the same time..

I strongly encourage you to go for Wish. It is good brand and car. Old technology but who cares if you just want a car for basic transportation.

We were looking at the Forester but I think it would be too much of a shock to move from the Prius to the Forester -FC wise

When I was in Korea, my colleague drive a Prius V, which looked very similar to the Wish, but was a Prius (Hybrid). I think it's called the Toyota Prius Alpha in Singapore...Too bad Borneo doesn't carry it, cos I'm not confident of getting Hybrid cars from PI's due to battery warranty (my Prius had the hybrid battery changed under warranty, which would have cost an arm and a leg if it wasn't covered).

Well if we are budget drivers we should watch out for Fuel efficiency, Wish has a proven FC record and parts should be easily available and OEM are plentiful. Toyota cars are reliable though boring. Next though hybrid looks more impressive with gadgets and newer technology but the batteries are still a NO to me. Though there is that HEVS workshop available but I still doubt servicing of advanced electronics is that advance in singapore or even malaysia workshop. So I would give these kind of hybrid cars a miss. This is why I like Honda Stepwagon turbo. Old technology proven, robust and last.

Actually my Prius is very reliable, but you're right in that the batteries are the main concern. All batteries will have a limited lifespan due to constant charging and discharging. Servicing is not an issue, but more when replacement of the batteries becomes necessary (I know 3 people including myself who has had hybrid battery replacement after 6-8 years of use). My Prius is serviced by BM from Day 1, but still the battery will eventually deteriorate. Here it costs SGG 11k to replace, which is a hefty cost to swallow. I was lucky that it was covered under warranty, so now I have a new battery for my Prius with 2 years to go till end of COE.

FC is overhyped these days... anything within 12-14km/L is considered good, if you are going to freak out just because once a while you get 11km/L then you're missing the point...

Thanks, Harrier is over-budget and the wife doesn't like the look of the CH-R (plus Hybrid only by PI, BM CH-R is non-hybrid)

One more reason - hybrid parf is non-existence. It is only singapore this country singing hybrid song and offering disguising rebate.

Harrier is way ovehyped and overrated. CHR is ugly than vezel. Stepwagon is unique.

Over the weekend we did comparison between Mazda 5 and wish. The majority vote Wish the winner.

Forestor TC, 12-14 is good already. Prius is hybrid, long term your battery replacement etc add in, is thereabouts.

Mazda 5 is 2L car and FC is very poor. I feel toyota is better in longer run. Some even commented Mazda 5 third row seat space is tight.

M5 is quite a lot more compared to the Wish lei.. 107k vs 125k (if comparing the higher spec model of both). Of course, one is 1.8L vs 2.0L.

M5 confirm more exp than Wish. If Mz5 then confirm cheaper than Wish.

FIL Mz5 @ was quoted 108888, 3 bids guarantee for Madza 5 (deluxe, 3 years warranty & 3 years servicing) thats end Nov. I think cheaper now
