For a 10Gbps edge firewall/router, I wonder if it's cheapest and easiest to go with pfSense or other soft firewall solutions.

Single-vendor solutions present some convenience, but there are also potential downsides. Then again, many home users only want convenience even at cost, so there is that.

Pfsense for sure! You can also upgrade your hardware only when you run into a bottleneck. Otherwise for simple routing an N100 would suffice.

I tend to think it is better to go with Intel Core i3-N305 in this case. N100 is good for 1G/2.5Gbps but may be a bit low for 10Gbps. As you mentioned, simple 10G routing may be okay.

Intel Core i3-N305 based -- N100 is much slower. You can see iperf3 results are not yet up to 10G/10G when using MTU=1500.

Intel N6005 based -- N100 is faster. You can see the performance vary a lot depending on the situations.

Indeed that is an good option -- to use pfSense/OPNsense/OpenWRT as the main router but then using TP-Link Omada for wireless (or Ubiquiti Unifi APs).

But it is of course not the cheapest option. As of now, the cheapest option is to use the ISP bundled free 10G enabled WiFi 7 router as mentioned by Apparatus. But then of course you have to live with the limited features of the main router.

Anyway, you can see the Omada router is not the main cost component if going with the solution proposed by Appartus, but rather 10G enabled WiFi 7 APs and the 10G PoE switch.

Yet the other option is to use pfSense/OPNsense/OpenWRT as the main router and then ISP bundled 10G enabled WiFi 7 router as AP (eg: Starhub EB810v x 2, first unit free and second unit at S$360). If I go with 10G plan (not any time soon as I do not plan to have 10G devices in the near future), I will probably choose to go with this way. No intention to go with Ubiquiti Unifi ecosystem or TP-Link Omada.

Okay then, but the total price is still very high and not worth the money.
You may want to look at Ubiquiti Unifi solution which has the lower end U7 Pro (2x2, BE9300) compared to EA780/783 (4x4 on the 6GHz band, BE22000).

ER8411 -- about S$579
OC200 -- about S$176
TL-SX3206HPP -- about S$769
EAP780 x 2 -- no pricing info yet in Singapore
EAP783 x 2 -- S$999 x2 = S$1998
Total: S$3522-S$579 = S$2943

Missing a main router. OC200 is the AP controller, not a router.

Example Router with 10G ports -- ER8411, about S$579
https://www.tp-link.com/sg/business-networking/omada-router-wired-router/er8411/

From the spec:
Omada App:
Yes. Requiring the use of OC300, OC200, Omada Cloud-Based Controller, or Omada Software Controller.

The overall system should be quite capable but the toal cost is very high. I will think it is not worth the money. You may want to look at Ubiquiti solution which has the lower end U7 Pro (2x2, BE9300) compared to EA780/783 (4x4 on the 6GHz band, BE22000/BE19000).

The following pricing estimation are from Lazada MediaPro

ER8411 -- about S$579
OC200 -- about S$176
TL-SX3206HPP -- about S$769
EAP780 x 2 -- no pricing info yet in Singapore
EAP783 x 2 -- S$999 x2 = S$1998
Total: S$3522

OC200 on Shopee is $138

https://shopee.sg/TP-Link-Omada-Har...bf&xptdk=0174b93c-c055-44d7-8e80-6d04833a0dbf

Lagi cheap at $38.70 on Shopee....................used item..........not sure whether can trust or not?

https://shopee.sg/Tp-link-Omanda-OC...66&xptdk=cabdf587-4913-488e-942a-308990df0966

TL-SX3206HPP on Shopee is $695.74

https://shopee.sg/TP-LINK-JETSTREM-...1c&xptdk=da194ffa-527c-4e7a-b1f2-5586d719d11c

EAP783 can get for $567.60 on Shopee

https://shopee.sg/TP-LINK-BE22000-C...e2&xptdk=46a2533c-6d36-4232-840f-3baa63b418e2

EA780 price may have to ask MediaPro Technology

If based on the above then total price = 38.70 + 695.74 + 2x567.60 = $1870

Nice. I am not good at finding lobangs so I usually use the more proven sources like Challenger or MediaPro in this case.

Anyway, the total cost is still very high. By all means go with the solution if you are willing to pay. My recommendation is to always go with the better solution as long as it is within your budget.

S$(138 + 695.74 + 567.60 x 2) = S$1968.94.

Congrats on your purchase. Home-based seller that also sells Omada, could be the same one I got my Synology NAS from. :s13:

Just want to point out that putting it in a wire basket will very likely impact the wireless signals. If you can't ceiling mount it, consider wall mounting it high instead.

Sorry to hijack this thread. Looking at outfitting a new place, and while I am used to running gigabit consumer APs and routers I am stumped by Omada hardware. If i were to run a network prioritizing 2.5G and 10G connections, will the following hardware be enough or too much?

ER8411
SG2210XMP-M2
EAP772
EAP655-WALL x 2
OC200

It is for a 3 room BTO.

I was hoping for a router that supports at least both 10G and 2.5G ports, but it seems like the only solution from Omada is to pair ER8411 with another switch.

Those of you who don't use Omada routers, does configuring still work the same way as using all Omada?

Interesting video to show migration from Ubiquiti gears to TP-Link Omada. Apparently it is not that smooth but still manageable for the YouTuber who is a networking expert.

I have been using Omada for a while. Quite solid and consistently getting close to 1gbps around my whole condo. The solution is so sleek until ppl come my house said where is ur router. Haha

Hi, Omada has a Omada Cloud Essentials that is a free cloud-based controller that does not need any controller hardware. Anyone has experience with it?

I am planning to have a POE switch to 5 wall APs + 1 router AP. And use the Omada Cloud Essentials to configure them. Currently leaning towards TP-Link Omada for the switch and APs, so that it is easier to use the OCE. Will also look at Haviso switches since they are very price competitive.

Would welcome any suggestions!
