This is my Network signal guru screenshot with circles and with TPG. Can anybody make anything out of this?

It seems B40 is enabled on my phone and it is connecting to it. So may be the other band 900Mhz is strong and my phone don't support?
It's pretty clear that TPG relies heavily on LTE Band 8 for coverage. LTE Band 40 is only for capacity enhancement in selected areas.

Whereas the incumbents rely heavily on LTE Band 3 for coverage. LTE Band 8 (ST) and LTE Band 28 (Big Three soon when IMDA releases the blocks) will be used for inbuilding coverage for areas that are hard to reach.

Yes it seems the RMN4X Snapdragon China doesn't support band8(900MHz) The MTK version supports this. Also Mi A1 supports it. I should have bought MTK like you, LohSengLTE :(

Haha but SD one way better battery life than MTK tho. Plus not sure if able to unlock more bands on the SD or not through rooting.

Hmm first time I seen someone want a mediatek chipset instead of a Qualcomm
:s13:

I think the weaker band 8 is something TPG Should fix when if they want to sell their service.
LTE Band 8 is the main band that TPG relies.

For Xiaomi Phones

This is the clear steps to enable VoLTE:

1. Check Mobile Network Setting (Settings ==> SIM cards & Mobile Networks).
If you don't have "VoLTE enabled" switch option, it means your selected region not support VoLTE, then continue with Step-2.
If you have it, then proceed to Step-3.

2. Change your region (Settings ==> Additional settings ==> Region). What I've found, Hongkong and India regions support VoLTE. You can try with other regions, and update us here.

3. In the Mobile Network Setting (Settings ==> SIM cards & Mobile Networks), if the "VoLTE enabled" switch option cannot be changed (in grey), then you need to continue to Step-4.

4. Disable operator check by entering the code in the dialer: *#*#86583#*#*

5. Now you can enable VoLTE with that "VoLTE enabled" option in the Mobile Network Setting (Settings ==> SIM cards & Mobile Networks).

No need to reboot your phone, just enable and make the call with VoLTE.

And don't forget, to have VoLTE work in your device you also need to include the function in your number subscription, contact your mobile network provider.

The following are for APN settings (Multiple brands)

How to configure APN for various phones. Used scanner app took when doing the collection. :)

Edit: pics sharp liao, thanks to jeff79 enlightenment :)
These steps are for Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 mtk export set...might work for other Xiaomi phones too.

Go to yr phone dial pad & enter *#*#4636#*#*

Choose Phone info1 or Phone info2.
If you put yr TPG sim card on Sim 2 then choose Phone info2.

Enable 'Turn on SMS over IMS'
Enable 'Toggle DNS Check - 0.0.0.0 allowed'

Next step. Install MTK Engineering mode app from playstore.

Run it & choose MTK settings.

Under Telephony tab, go to BandMode.

Then select Sim 1 or Sim 2 (where you put yr TPG sim card. Mine is in Sim 2.

Then choose 'SET' and go back to Telephony tab.

Go to IMS. Scroll down to 'VOLTE SETTING', select 'CMW500 setting' and
'SET' it.

That's it!
I did some reading on the MIUI forum. People have taken the pains to unlock band 8 on their China RN4X but they were not successful in getting the signal on band 8, it seems a hardware restriction.

If you bought export set, it is most likely China. There is a Taiwan version which has B8 enabled.

Look at your box, it will say if it is 4 or 4x.

Go to settings, about phone, status, get the IMEI number, then go to mi.com/verify. Enter the IMEI number. It will tell you. In my case China set :(

My wife's Mi A1 is global version even though it is an export set.

I have an iPad Air 2 working well so far on TPG Mobile’s LTE data network, but it’s not a VoLTE device. This device supports both of what seem to be TPG’s LTE bands (8 and 40).

I’m sure they have their hands full, and I don’t know if the regulators would allow it, but it’d be pretty neat if TPG could light up a token 2G GSM 900MHz national network for global roamers (especially for emergency calls) and SMS. TPG’s LTE Band 8 allocation (900MHz) would allow them to pull this off using a very tiny bit of that allocation since it’s a GSM compatible allocation — and they could do it with barely enough for one or two low bitrate (AMR-WB 6.60 and GSM HR) voice channels, for example, and with no 2G data service (GPRS/EDGE) of course. And they could generate some global roaming revenue with that tiny bit of 2G, and they need revenue I’m sure. T-Mobile in the U.S. has done exactly this sort of thing, and it works well in combination with 4G LTE networks. (3G doesn’t work as well in pairing like this since it requires too much minimum frequency allocation.)

There are still probably tons of “naive” foreign workers and tourists arriving in Singapore with 2G phones that don’t work. Well, they could work, for very, very basic emergency-oriented service and for SMS. And all the phones that have problems with VoLTE — there are many — could at least get some basic SMS service (which TPG could charge for at certain tiers) in combination with LTE data.

On edit: I see Vodafone and Huawei are doing exactly this sort of thing (GSM/LTE) in Turkey also on 900MHz, with lots of LTE but a minimum viable/skeleton 2G GSM service. It’s just a wild idea to try to come up with ways TPG might find some revenue.
