Anyone here using track lights at home?

I assume these come in either LED or regular incandescent bulbs right? Because I'm keen to use them at my new place but don't want LED after lots of bad experience. Am planning to use incandescent bulb track lights with dimmer switch so when I'm watching TV I can dim the lights accordingly.

If I don't want to have ugly surface trunking covering the wires, I guess the only way is to have those cove light things? Don't know what you call it but pic below.

Have seen in some houses before but instead of having cove lights, there is that false ceiling thingie and they use downlights only. In this case no cove or downlights for me, just that false ceiling thingie and track lights mounted on it so wires are hidden. Or is there any other method? Really hate those ugly surface trunking.

the track is standardized throughout right? meaning different brands of lights can fit into the same track?

I have LED downlights & cove lights with LED strips.

When downlights spoil it could be the bulb or driver, if driver good luck cos contractor had to cut a whole in the false ceiling to replace it then patch back.

They are also not lasting. Within a year one LED strip blew leaving half my bedroom in the dark. Few months later one downlight in my bedroom blew. Shortly after one living room downlight blew.

My parents flat also similar issues.

thanks for the info..

I think its quite unpredictable how long the LEDs will last..

the downlights at my current place have lasted 6yrs without problem.

that said, from ur experience I guess its better to plan for plug n play, easily replaceable bulbs!

I think there are plug n play LED bulbs in the market now right..

I believe what u are referring to, will be the L-box false ceiling..

if u don't want surface trunking on the ceiling, the only other alternative is to ask the contractor to fabricate L-box at the area where u want the track lights, so u can run the wires in the L-box.

Not true.
The wires can be concealed within the ceiling at higher price. Normally 45 bucks per lighting point.
Cove light / L-box is of different purpose, if you have L-box installed you might as well go for solution as follow instead of tracklight:

or this

The base is still a track. Another pro is that you can change to any kind of light. Eg: pendant lights, spot light etc. Just terminate it to the track light connector like I did for the kids room as in photo. My whole house all tracks everywhere. I'm the future when I don't like the light structure, I can just change it accordingly and just fix it to the track. It's modular in a way.
