Hi, Just want to know if in a train interchange, transferring between different train lines in Japan is the same here in Singapore?

Meaning, no need to exit individual stations to transfer to different train line. And would it be the same also for train lines owned by different companies (JR, Subway, Kintetsu, etc)

If it depends on the station, then how to identify which one need to exit and which dont need.

Thank you.

jp train is unlike sg its all invidual type
unless u take the same line type lie JR to JR
unless u plan to take JR to metro or privete subway
means u need to exit and enter and pay again
is not as interlinked like SG
take for example malaysia KL LRT
if utake before u will understands rthe planning

so ask your self where u going
example from ueno to shinjuku u wil take JR
or from ueno to asakusa u take metro
diff location diff line and trains company

maybe u come out a list of where u stay and where u want to visit
then we can advise u

Eg. in Tokyo, most of the metro and JR stations have more than 1 line at each station, unlike Singapore where we only have a few stations which are considered train interchanges.

Usually if it's just transferring within the same train company (eg, lines operated by JR company) you'd most probably don't need to exit the station to do your transfer.

However, if you are transferring train lines operated by different companies (eg. transferring from a JR line to a Metro subway line), chances are that you would most probably need to exit the gantry and re-enter another gantry.

However, that said, I have had rare occasions where I had to exit a gantry and re-enter another gantry even though I was taking a train line from the same company.

Anyway, what I do is just follow the signboards when I alight from the train to do my transfer. Train stations in Tokyo and Osaka usually have quite clear directional signs so just follow the signboard to get to the train line you want to go. If there's too many people for you to see the signboards, I usually just follow the crowd. haha.

May I ask something that may be relevant.
When alighting at wrong stations(need to take back the reverse direction) or take wrong directions(return to starting point), what scenarios need to pay extra?

1. Metro/Subway/Tram lines (Crossing over the platform will do?)
2. JR lines/ Private lines (Alight and find the correct platform back?)
3. JR shinkansen (I know high chance wouldn't happen but just asking)

It's station-based and not time-based so normally no penalty. If step into wrong gantry and step out its free.

To be specific my inquiry pertains to the following trips:

1) Kansai Airport to Namba (Ill be taking Haruka then alight at Tennoji to transfer to Municipal Subway (Midosuji Line) to alight in Namba station. - I cannot take the Nankai as I need to take Icoca Haruka Package for my Return trip)

2) Namba to Yoshino - Namba to Tennoji (JR) to Osaka Abenobashi (Kintetsu Line) to Yoshino

Not sure how beneficial is Haruka + ICOCA package.

but there is quite plenty of transfers and to trim down:
1) maybe try OCAT bus direct from kansai to Namba which I usually take.

2) use midosuji line from namba to tennoji instead of using JR (JR requires one transfer)
then transfer to Osakaabenobashi to Yoshino

1) Ill take haruka icoca because my last day ill be coming from kyoto..so im thinking ill save if ill be taking the package..or mybe there would be other cheaper way from kyoto to airport?

2) ow. your correct. actually i mean midosuji line not JR..anyway the transfer from tennoji to osakaabenobashi requires different ticket, i presume, correct?

I see , forgot about the possibility of coming back from kyoto this scenario, lol!

for 2) they are different lines ..... something like city hall station transfer to esplande circle line station.
so its like city hall gantry out and go esplande circle line station gantry in.
I think no need buy ticket these days, all use ICOCA card should be fine.
