It takes a week at least to get from one end to another, and that is assuming you do not get off the train. I would suggest taking a few breaks in between.

The most boring train ride EVER with quite unwelcoming local people and completely rude train attendants.

You really want to do this?

Boring? Have you done the trip yourself?

The attendants aren't rude. It's just that you don't speak their language.

I have met really nice locals who shared their food or tried to help.

Boring is subjective too. The train ride is pretty scenic and interesting at some parts. And I really wonder why there are so many people (around the world) who would want to do such a boring train ride *yawn*

I met this guy in Beijing who did Moscow to Beijing in 1 shot (6N). I think he completely missed the point :(

There are at least 2 full guidebooks entirely dedicated to the TransSiberian Rail, and you'd think that TransSiberian is more than just sitting in a train eh?

Yes, agree with minimice
Please make stops & see the Siberian countryside; try both the kupe and the platskart; step on 2 continents; swim in the deepest lake in the world etc etc - it'll be one of your most interesting trips you can make.... but gotta go with an open mind!

Hi dilphinus, wuso,

May i know approximate how much you spend for this part of your trip(Trans Siberian Route) including fare, stop over, accomodation, etc?
I know it differs person to person, but I just need a rough guide. Sharing would help me very much.

I intend to do this around Feb 2016, taking trains/buses from Singapore all the way to Norway to view the Northern lights.

Thank you.

Thank you.

If you have clicked on the link which I posted, you would have gotten the costing.

Anyway, the value of the Rubles has fallen so it's considerably cheaper.

Thank you.
I took from Beijing to Ulan Ude (via Mongolia which I didn't exit), and then to Irkutsk, Krasnoyarsk, Tomsk, Yekaterinburg, Kazan, Moscow, St Petersburg, and exiting to Helsinki. The rubles have fallen, so things should be cheaper, and my trip was in 2010, so I don't think giving my costs would help much. If u wanna know, I spent abt S$2200 for my 29days in Russia, in which S$900++ in bus/trains. Hostels is abt S$20+.

In order to see the Aurora, u would have to reach Scandinavia mid-to-3rd-week Mar, and u wanna bus/train from SG in Feb.
Looks like u would be just sitting through the Trans Siberian as well.....
