Currently pursuing a degree in business in SUSS and just completed first sem but current program does not have honours. 'Working in govt sector and found out that honours will command higher pay in govt sector.

Wondering if its worth it to switch to accountancy which is the only other option left with honours? Or will it not matter much in future.

Is ur degree 3 yrs w/o honours? Although i'm not from suss, but i'm currently doing a uol degree.

My input is, for honours, people do it fot an opportunity to pursue masters in the future if they want to.

Provided u can get FCH, that will increase ur salary by 300-500? After that for ur next job experience would be more valuable le

Yeah, 3 yrs w/o honours.

So only FCH will be relevant in commanding higher starting salary? What about second upper/lower?

Is the starting pay the only plus point of pursuing a honours?

2nd upper nth much haha, just baseline for msc application, u cannot think short term.

By saving 1yr of time, u can use that to earn $$. And that will be greater than the additional amount u get from FCH.

Let's assume u start working after y3, u earn 3.2k x 12 = 38,400.

If u proceed to y4, u lose 38,400 today as Opp Cost but u gain say 3.6k/month, you PV that to today's value you will find out that it isn't as worth as you think it might be unless u have plans on doing msc.

But msc in accounting is pretty useless. Prof cert better.

Haha, was just thinking of the starting pay. Thanks for the insights. It made sense.

Guess I can do away with the honours since I don't intend to pursue a masters anyway.

I see there is an invitation for the School of Business Honours programme, BSHBZ/BSHBM/BSHFI, your basic degree is not BSBZ?

May I know where did you see it? Is it a full time program? I forgot to mention in my initial post that I am taking a part-time degree.

Mine is BSBZ. I was told on orientation day that they have removed honours for BSBZ.

I see from the honour invitation email that was send to me yesterday, I saw BSHBZ was listed in the FAQ (Updated on June 2019).

P.S. I am not from School of Business.

Ah. Yeah Bsbz used to have honours. July 2019 batch was the last batch for BSHBZ. My intake was in Jan 20, which had the honours removed.

You will have a better chance at securing interviews in the gov sector with the honours.

Second upper is considered good honours and will get high starting salary too. Second lower or third will still help you get a decent level starting salary.
