Transfer speed question

Hi all

Quick question. WHen I transferred 60GB of files from my 1TB 7200rpm HDD to my new Intel 530 SSD 240GB, I got an average transfer speed of 82-84MB/s, which then dropped to 50+MB/s.. is this about right? Seems a bit slow... what should I be seeing?

Your 1TB 7200rpm is limiting the transfer speed, which is normal as reading of the hdd varies from 30mb/s~130mb/s depending on the area of the platter.

The intel 530 series will have a read/write on avg of 220~250mb/s.

HDD speed is more physically dependent.
At outer disk area, it is the fastest. As it moves toward centre, speed drop.

When I did a copy of files from my OS SSD to the Intel, I got write speeds of 25-35MB/s

My other SSD is the Corsair Force GT 128GB btw

OK weird.. when I tried copying files from another HDD to the COrsair, I got 110MB/s and from the HDD to the Intel I got 230MB/s

But SSD to SSD was slower...

Just check your pc is support sata 3 or USB 3.0?

If usb 3.0 when transfer from 60gb these is not ready so much data for transfer in 1 time.

Nope, its an older SATA II / USB 2.0 mobo (EVGA X52 SLI LE). But still, the transfer speeds are not even close to the theoretical max for SATA II
