Just want to share my travel insurance claim experience.

got stuck in Hong kong on the 22nd Sep 2013 due to Typhoon Usagi.

Scheduled flight is 6:30pm. SIA.

Although, Cathay Pacific had issued notice all flight cancelled after 6pm. My flight was not cancelled. Even at check in, i doubled confirmed with the ground staff, they replied not cancellation yet.

6:15pm then they start to board us. Boarding is as usual. Aircraft taxi-ed till runway then pilot say wind too strong. In the end, he decided to return the aircraft to airport.

Everyone was ask to leave the aircraft, many commotion with some passenger and the ground staff. I happily relax one corner and await their instruction.

Around 8pm, we were told to proceed to re-enter HK. Luggage unable to return to us as the wind is too strong and hence hazardous for ground crew to take out the luggage from aircraft.

Ground staff divert those whom need accommodation into 2 groups. twin/double sharing and Single traveler. I was in the single traveler group, in the end was told to board the bus to Marriott Skyline hotel.

Check in and stuff is pretty quick. Buffet dinner around 9:30. (Good Dinner!) By the time i finished dinner, a slip of paper found in my room stating flight delayed to 11am the next day.

Morning wake up, good breakfast and left Marriott around 7:30am. Check in airport counter again. Another slip of paper was at the counter for you to take for claim for insurance.

Reached Singapore around 3+.

I made the claim for travel insurance online around 27th Sep 2013 with photocopy airline notice and boarding pass. Got the reply that $400 bucks in process under flight delay benefit today 7th Oct 2013. Overall, good experience. Lucky for the travel insurance and me, my curtailment hotel and meals are all paid for by Airline.

My travel insurance premium for Asia is only $90 per year. Not too bad!
