Hi guys. I need some help or advice for my upcoming trip in March. Actually I had planned the travel route but something came up and may need to change so wondering if anyone can provide some suggestion for me.

Original plan
9/3 - Tokyo
10/3 - Nagoya
11, 12/3 - Takayama
13, 14, 15/3 - Kyoto/ Osaka
16, 17, 18, 19 - Tokyo (fly back on 19th)

But now, 13-15th i need to stay in Tokyo. How should I go about to rearrange the trip so I can fully utilise the JR Pass if I buy.

Any suggestion is greatly appreciated!

go straight to kyoto/osaka and work your way up?
can base in osaka and do day trip to kyoto
this way JR pass won't expire till you reach tokyo

Go straight to Kyoto after arriving in Tokyo? But then the JR pass will be activated when I travel from Tokyo to Kyoto right?

y dun u refund ur JR pass?

I haven't buy the JR pass yet. But intending to buy it to go with my original plan. Now the plan got slight changes so don't know how to plan. Don't want to spend all 10 days in Tokyo.

Best is to buy open jaw ticket? Either land in Osaka or Tokyo and go towards the other direction.

if u have not book ur airticket, then u can fly in and out of Osaka instead of Tokyo. that way u can use ur 7-day JR pass to travel to Nagoya, Takayama and Tokyo, and then back to Osaka

wah.. like tt really headache. u only got 4 day in front and 4 day a the back. if u use a 7-day JR pass for either of the 4 days, to travel to either nagoya+takayama or osaka+kyoto, but not both. and 4 day seems kinda short.

i would suggest sticking to Tokyo and somewhere nearby that doesnt require JR pass. e.g. Nikko, Kamakura, Hakone

I would probably recommend that you use the 3 days JR Kanto Area Pass (much cheaper than 7 days JR Pass) to visit Kawaguchiko, Nikko (visit Edo Wonderland perhaps?), and Karuizawa.

Then for the rest of the trip, u can visit Disneyland/Disneysea, Tokyo itself, nearby Kamakura and/or Yokohama, nearby Kawagoe for old shops, Omiya for large train museum, or Sanrio Puroland (if you are into Sanrio characters)...etc...

no need buy JR pass... =)

The Kanto region sounds good. If I understand correctly, those areas are near to Tokyo right? So if I plan those locations. Do I still use Tokyo as base for accommodation or stay at the various places?

And it will be pretty dumb for me to buy JR pass and travel to Kyoto on 10/3 and come back on the 13/3 right? I understand if purchase normal tickets will be the same price as compare to the JR Pass. But still not really value for money right?

Thank you all for your valuable inputs!

yes, u can use Tokyo as a base and make day trips, or u can also choose to stay a night or 2. for some places like Hakone , it will be good to stay a night to experience the onsen. nikko can be a day trip, although i stayed 2 night there coz i want to explore lake chuzenji as well

for JR passto kyoto, it is just that u dun have enuf days to properly explore that area, so not worth the time and cost to travel all the way there

Okay! Thanks for your advice. I guess most likely I will just stay in Tokyo and make day trips out.

Need to rebook the hotels then. Btw, any nice hotels with private onsen to recommend for hakone?
