Travelling with your camera

Hi all.

I intend to bring my mirrorless for my upcoming trip. And I plan to carry it in a shoulder bag separately and will also carry a backpack for personal items.

Just wanna check.
How do you all usually pack your camera for travels? Is it better to just put everything in the backpack together with personal items?

And when you're at your destination and walking around and exploring. Do you just sling your camera on your shoulder? How safe is it to do so?

it all depends where u are travelling to. To a country like Singapore, u can sling all u want, don’t even have to cross sling. Can’t say for other countries.

Another thing is. When you pack your camera for travel. Do you detach the lens from the body or leave it attached?

I have a small camera sling bag solely for camera. It’s will be for all the camera stuff like lense (I bring 2) and batteries. This is on top of my backpack which is to keep my other barang barang like purchases.

I will keep my lense attached.

Hi there... This is what I do when I travel with my camera:

1) I travel with the lens attached to the camera. This is to minimise the amount of time I expose my camera sensor to the environment (when you attach and detach the lens).

2) I use a camera backpack, i.e. one open compartment for personal items, while there's a padded compartment for keeping the camera. If you don't have such a backpack, you can consider getting something padded to wrap your camera, then dump it inside your bag. So that nothing hits your camera while inside your backpack.

3) At the destination, I sling my camera. I realised that you tend to take more photos when your camera within reach.

i carry a backpack with a camera body with lens attached, another lens, gorilla pod, camera accessories. the backpack still have some space for me to throw in a umbrella, waterbottle, tissues.

i will sling the camera when i'm at the place i'm visiting so that i can capture pics faster and easier.

okay ah... The only worry I have is people knocking my tripod over when I set the timer to shoot myself. otherwise, I don't have worries of people snatching my camera (yet).

I'm using GX7 with 12-32 + 17mm F1.8 for travel. It's in a small padded pouch which will be placed in my day backpack. Similar to something like this:

I like this pouch... Actually, I prefer TS to carry 1 bag instead of 2 (1 personal + 1 camera). All because its easy to forget 1 of the 2 bags when travelling around, easier to manage 1 bag bah...

You can get this type in any of the online shops. Just search for padded camera bag or pouch.

The problem with camera bags is that they do a good job to store and protect the camera only. There is no space to put other non camera stuffs u will need on trip. No places to store souvenirs even.

Overseas travel, I will put it inside a backpack with a pouch. it's a bit of a hassle to take the camera out, but at least I have space to store other stuffs

Totally agree with you... And its quite bulky for the camera bag also (because of all the padded foam inside).

I will bring a small camera bag if I bring lots of gear, eg extra batteries, microphone, an extra lens. This is usually for a "work" trip.

For holidays, it's just one lens and extra batteries. I just put the camera in my backpack in such a way that it won't be damaged. E.g. I wrap my camera with my big soft camping hat.
