At the InvestFair last year, there were so many of such crap there. Hydroponic vegetables, fisheries, paintings etc. Heard of palm oil trees, Sri Lankan crabs and of course gold and distressed properties too. All so scammy and blatant.

I went to talk to some of them, the moment I ask more pointed questions, they clammed up. Best one was the painting scheme, they claim their investors can make 12% pa. You pay at least 20k to buy a painting from them recommended by their experts. And then they help you rent it out to corporates and buildings. I asked them how I know your painting is worth 20k, they said they have experts. I asked if there are independent appraisals. But they just kEpt repeating they have experts. Glad I wasted lots of their time.

Many people are just unaware that any promised return above 5% is suspicious. And they like to think they discovered a good deal. Easy pickings. Sigh.
