I just thought it would be fun to list down the CPUs I had over the years, see how much has changed!
Premade "IBM compatible" ones
Circa 1984: 286sx
1987-1993: 386, 486(don't know how fast they ran at)
1994: Pentium 100 MHz
1995: Pentium Pro 200mhz
1996: Pentium II 266mhz
Self assembled
1999: Mendocino Celeron 500
2000: Coppermine Celeron 566--oc to 850mhz
2000-2001: Spitfire Duron 600--oc to 800mhz, Duron 650, Duron 700( I loved Durons, still have a couple lying about)
2002-2003: Throughbred Athlon XP 1700(1533mhz), Throughbred Athlon XP 1800(1600mhz)
2004: Celeron D 320(2.4ghz)--oc to 3.8ghz. Imagine, 9 years back, CPUs were already at current speeds!
2005: Pentium 4 2.8c--oc to 3.5ghz(I loved to buy 2nd hand chips which had been oc by others)
2006: Athlon x2 3800+, Core 2 E6300(1.86ghz)
2009: Core 2 Q6600(2.4ghz)--another 2nd hand cpu oc to 3.456ghz
2010: i5 750, fantastic CPU that still works great
2011: i3 540, used as a spare
2013: i5 2500K, i5 3570K
As I don't play cutting edge games that often, the Q6600 served me for 5 years as the main comp, and its still working on a 965P-DS3 board that just celebrated its 7th birthday last week
