Hi, I am planning to do a day trip down to Nikko. Anyone can share your experience?

I have bought the JR East pass and tried making seat reservations online for the Limited Express train from Ikebukuro to Tobu-Nikko station. After many failed attempts (correct me if i'm wrong) I think seats reservations cannot be made on Limited Express train.

If so what are the chances that we will not get a seat on the train as the journey will take ard 2hrs18mins (I have elderly with me). Will the train be packed?

Thank you if anyone can help with the questions.

Seat reservations are for JR trains. You’re trying to take Tobu Railway which is run by a private company.

Actually, OP is using JR East Pass. It does cover if s/he is taking the train from Shinjuku to Nikko.
