Trip to Osaka, Tokyo

Hello, i am planning a 2-weeks trip for my family to osaka and tokyo next year. I was wondering what is the best options to travel there?

Either flight to tokyo, train to osaka, then train back to tokyo before flying back.
Or flight to osaka, then train to tokyo, before flying back from tokyo.

Planning to stay 1 week in osaka, and 1 week in tokyo.

If you don’t mind paying a little more, fly to one and out from another one. Doesn’t really matter if you’re doing SIN-KIX and HND-SIN or SIN-HND and KIX-SIN.

Haneda is closer to Tokyo city, as compared to Narita.

1) Land/Depart HND + 7D JRP(Fastest is Hikari)
2) Land KIX/HND and Depart from HND/KIX + Shinkansen(JPY14500/pax for Nozomi)

My recent trip i compare and it actually save me about S$100/pax for doing option 2.

Use JAL japan explorer pass , (Japan airline) either from osaka to tokyo or vice visa. The price save can be used for transport~ It is about 7560yen and with tax I think less than sgd100 per pax

Get the 7 day JR pass.
It is worth it if you make a return trip to Tokyo.
Since you have so much time, consider making a day trip to Hiroshima.
If you do so, then your JR pass would be used to the fullest!

If first time , stick to Kansai or even go Hiroshima .
Go during Sakura or red leaves.

tokyo tickets cheaper by <$100, but the JR pass is >$300.

Not to Osaka / Tokyo return.

main attractions are the peace park/memorial museum, and miyajima for the torii gate

it is possible to do it as a day trip, but it will be quite rush. better to stay a night or 2 in hiroshima if possible

and i checked one way sia tickets to osaka cost around $700 while two way sia tickets to tokyo cost around $700 too. So i think make more sense to fly in and out form tokyo.

You dont need JR pass for that...Cant recoup the amount spend..

7D JRP = 29110

Osaka to Tokyo on Nozomi = 14.5k
Osaka to Nara on JR Yamatoji Rapid Service = JPY800(give you return is 1.6k)
Osaka to Kyoto on JR Special Rapid Service = JPY560(Return is 1120)

If you do intercity(Tokyo>Osaka and vice versa on Hikari) then you almost recoup the upfront. Hikari would cost $14140/trip so a return trip would be $28280..Then u add a few like the 2 location you mention then u recoup back the amt.

Like i mention compare intercity air ticket + 1 leg nozomi vs land/repart in hnd or kix + JRP cost.

Also need to take into consideration of time taken.

Nozomi is 147mins while Hikari is 177mins. If need to travel back for flight, spend almost another 3hrs.

Gixxerfield had done all the math for you. However it'd be good if you can do the math yourself in case you are interested in knowing how much it takes to travel from place A to B, or if you have more places to go and not sure if a JRP or a kansai thru pass would be worth it. Get yourself familiarised with Hyperdia. It's a very useful tool to calculate the cost of the various train rides in Japan.

Im thinking of getting the 7 days JR pass, and was wondering if this itinerary for the first 7 days will be feasible.

Day 1: Travel from Toyko to Osaka.
Day 2, 3: Osaka (including USJ)
Day 4: Day trip to Kyoto
Day 5: Day trip to Kyoto
Day 6: Nara
Day 7: Travel back to Toyko.

Wanted to add in Hiroshima but doesnt fit into the 7 days pass le. Also thinking of just staying at a single location (Osaka) for convenience.
