I have a problem getting online on ethernet connection.

Symptom:
rj45 connected to LAN socket, steady green, flashing yellow. Win7 says network connected. Open chrome. No webpage can be reached.

What i have done:
Ping www.microsoft.com, unreachable. Strangely, ping www.singtel.com.sg is fine.
Tried loading www.singtel.com.sg, no joy.
Connect a different laptop to same rj45, everything ok.
Reset desktop chrome setting to default, still no go.
Tried turning off win7 firewall, still no go.

What else can i do to fully isolate that my desktop onboard LAN is confirmed dead?

What are your proxy settings in Chrome?

Also, can you access Microsoft via its IP 134.170.188.221? It could be that your DNS isn't working properly.

No proxy server used.

I have also tried with IE. No joy too.

if can ping router, the lan is ok. I think it is network setting in OS or browser problem.

try to http your gateway,
eg
http://192.168.1.1 or http://192.168.1.254 for singtel user

step
1). ipconfig . default gateway?
2) ping default gateway
3) type in browser http://"default gateway ip"

this happened to me and it drove me nuts.
it turned out, it's winpcap that screwed up my network settings. I had to install it to be able to use my TPLink power plug GUI.
In the end, I had to do a system restore. I suggest you try that if all else fails.
