Hi all, would like to get some truffle oil for my dad, however I have no idea where to start. Could someone be so kind as to point me in the right direction please?

Any favorite brands to get or lookout for?

Any important points to note?

Most improtantly, where can i get it from?

Appreciate any help and advice given.

Thank you!!!

Thx Beta, what i'd like to know is the difference in truffle oils of different brands. 1 brand was 40 and another was 60 for same amount of oil. Both seemed the same to me, with no explanation or information on the product :(

Try the Prego restaurant at Raffles City. They have a small counter outside the restaurant selling italian stuff and think they should have it.

Of course just try the cheaper one first if you cannot tell the different. olive oil and balsamic vinegar have different grades. I have seen few hundreds dollars per bottle for balsamic vinegar.

personally i dunno specifically what the difference is, could be country of original, sub region, quality of olives, quality of truffles, acidity of the oil etc...

ultimately you just want the flavour and scent from the truffles from the oil. just buy what you are comfortable with in terms of budget as I don't think you would be able to tell the difference unless you buy all and line them up for a side by side comparison.

The price difference could be based on whether the truffle oil contains real truffles. Most truffle oils today are just synthetic, made with chemicals and olive oil.

The more expensive ones may have some amount of real truffles in them, so check the bottle!

Famous chefs such like Gordon Ramsey , they dislike using truffle oil.. They would prefer to use the real truffle instead..
However , I have personally tried truffle salt , they are pretty nice IMO. I would suggest u to get truffle salt instead. But however if you insist of truffle oil, then head to ion orchard top floor there's this place that sells oil and alcohol in bottles

Gordon Ramsey say truffle oil is an insult to the culinary world and everyone should not use it.

He says people who use it usually dunno what real truffle taste like.
