Hey guys. I'm posted to tekong under the ptp batch on 10th june. However, still got 3 weeks before the re-take of napfa at toa payoh.
Actually i planned to go japan during june then the letter came. 1 word : SHAG.

I've been training and hoping to pass my napfa during the 21st may. I've been running once every 2 days. Been lifting weights to train my muscles for pull up.

I'm 78kg and 173cm tall. I would like to share my napfa standard and see if you guys feel that i can make it to get a silver for my napfa by 21st may.

Sit-up : no problem, straight 5 pts ( which i believe most people can do it)
Shuttle run : 4 pts
Pull-up : big ****ing fat 0
SBJ : 190cm (Trainable, not so worried)
Running (2.4) : I ran 2.08km but it took me 18 minutes.

Come advise me if it is possible to do it in time. Do teach me how and your secret too :) Honestly, I would really love to get a silver.

I know people say ptp for relax slack time, more bonding time. But still, just wanting to hear the opinion of others.

Thanks :) :s12:

If you want me to ADVISE if it is possible. I THINK it's not likely.

I think unless you go train day and night, if not I doubt there's anyway you gonna go from a zero fighter to at least 5 pull-ups. and running unless u go dope, which i don't think u can do it in 3 weeks, i think u just be prepared to enter lor

U do noe that if you somehow manage to get silver, u might end up enlisting in the 2nd batch right?

If i am u, i will rather enlist earlier and ord earlier.

not very possible
training too hard will risk an overuse injury

if you are those that can do 1 or 2 pull ups, achieving 5 to 6 in 3 weeks time is possible if you pull and whack yourself everyday and rest about 2 days before the actual day. but for zero fighter might be abit hard, you need to break the egg first! and aim to do a standard 1 pull up, not those half f*ck or jump start type.

2.4 must be trained, no short cut. HIIT can help, but you also need to condition yourself for the actual distance.

SBJ is about technique seriously, can see people jumping 198 during first try then to 221 during second try.

and unless its really muscles, i do think you need to lose some weight. it will help for almost all stations since you are carrying lesser weight.

My honest opinion: Very hard

Pull ups: Unlikely without breaking the zero barrier... and to break the zero barrier means whacking hard on eccentric pull ups... based on personal experience and what I see from recruits it takes them quite some time...

SBJ: Silver in IPPT is 225... while I believe technique is one of the keys to a good jump, how you launch without losing power is important too...

2.4: Very hard, you would need to whack intervals every other day (cause doing everyday would just burn your CNS down)...

So my suggestion: You would be better off going into PTP and serve earlier... if whack too hard these 3 weeks you might overtrain...

Also BMT is very rushed... and assuming you don't train after you get silver for NAPFA you will struggle real bad when it comes to BMT

Bro, i think PTP is better. I need to go through PTP too but mine's on September. It will be hard to train within 3 weeks.

For pull ups, just keep going to the fitness corner near your house and do. Was a zero-fighter but can do 7 now. SBJ need to train legs. Do power jumps, squats etc. 2.4km, well most people will do HIIT. Eg. 6x400m, 2 minutes. But i suggest you do long distance like 5km also. And remember not to run everyday, later injury. Do alternate day.

For me, i can get 4-5 points for all stations except 2.4km :x Flunk it so badly. But i think PTP is good because they can train me and it won't be too rushing(correct me if im wrong).

Jiayou bro! :) Enjoy army life :p

Just weighing in my opinions:

To train your pull up and 2.4km to a passable level in 3 weeks is extremely hard. It's not a matter of how hard you train, but there is a limit to how much your body can improve in. It's more likely that your body will suffer an injury before you can hit the levels you need to pass. In addition, you need to allow a few days to 1 week for your body to rest before you take your test. Don't be like my friend, he can easily get silver one but because he train till the last min, his stomach cramp and he just passed his IPPT instead of a silver because of his situp....

However, that doesn't mean you should give up now. Continue training so that you will have an easier time during NS.

Just a few tips that I've learnt from my army days:
Pull up:
I believe pull up has to do more with your body weight than your arm strength. So focus on bringing down your body weight and monitor your body fat to 15% and below. You can get those weighing machine from groupon that can assess your body fat (among other things). From my experience, it's pretty accurate (+-0.5%) as I've compared it to the machine at California Fitness. In addition, it serves as a motivation when you weigh yourself everyday. Also to train pull up, easiest way is to just keep pulling. Since you can't pull, do inclined instead. As your weight go down, you will naturally be able to pull. Best way to lose weight imo is doing HIIT. My height and weight is 170cm and 65.5kg and I can do about 15 pullups now.

2.4km:
First is to make sure that you can run FURTHER than 2.4km without resting. Rather than worrying about running faster, you need to worry about running without stopping. So when you do your daily run, aim to run 4km each time and try to stretch the distance before your first rest. When running, aim to breathe in through your nose and breathe out through your mouth. Breathing through your nose allow you to take in more oxygen and breathing out through your mouth allow you to expel air faster.

Next is to do circuit. Run one round in 2mins, rest for 4 mins, and repeat 6 times. As it gets easier, cut down your running and rest time. Ideally, you should hit run 1 round in 1:30 mins, rest for 3 mins. Once that happens, aim for run 2 rounds in 3 mins, rest for 5 mins etc you get the idea. I did this during my time in OCS and I hit my personal best 2.4km timing during those days.

Lastly, remember that getting in shape is not an overnight process. It requires constant work over a long period of time, rather than an insane amount of work over a short period of time.

Share some experience with you . I was a zero fighter before I went in for ptp , like I never broke the zero barrier before for all my napfas . After the 2 month ptp I just managed to hit 6 pullups .
So if you have been able to do 1 or 2 before then in sure you can hit silver because it's really about breaking the zero like all the others mentioned above .

2.4 is really to do intervals , take the silver timing and divide it by 6 rounds , that's what you should aim to achieve per round with an equal amount of rest time .
This should be easy because if you are running , you will definitely see results fast and not like sbj .

Hmm

Hey guys, thanks a lot for your replies man. As you know, pre-enlistee like me tend to think too much prior to enlistment. But after hearing all your comments and suggestion, i feel so much at eased entering the PTP before BMT.

Yes, even though they say during the PTP is xiong but I believe that you will do even better within that extra 8 weeks or so.
Some people might not even make it during the enhanced batch, they will be suffering instead.

3 weeks is really tough but 3 months will be possible. For pull up: just train at any fitness corner a day. Do till failure for every set.
For 2.4km : You got to do interval training.

Most people fail at the 2.4 , chin up and sbj station. For 2.4, do interval trainings and regular endurance run. For chin up, I do under arm pull up which is easier for me. Train at the gym by doing more biceps curl. Lastly, sbj train by doing more tuck jumps, lounges. SBJ is more on the technique. So if you cannot get the technique right, its :(

Wah....it's scary how people say should train to failure everyday. That just sounds like a recipe for disaster.

My pullups didn't improve until I keng the Pullup regime in SCS. In BMT where I keep doing everyday to failure, it only started deproving.

Biceps curl? I dun see much use of it for improving ippt scores. And also, sbj is not just abt technique. Your lower body strength counts and how you convert that strength into power (aka plyo or explosive trainings). Most layman like to blame it solely on technique which is sad
