Really smart of Erdogan to do that. He knows the US-led NATO is dying to have Finland and Sweden joining NATO, and would likely try its best to meet Turkey's demand (in order to clear the path for Finland and Sweden to join NATO).

For such 'golden' opportunity (to get demands met) is hard to come by - if it ever does. Turkey is indeed smart enough to capitalize on it!!

Yup. As far as US is concern, the more countries joining (the US-led) NATO, the better!

In fact back in 2008, US had also demanded NATO to put Ukraine (and Georgia) on an immediate path to membership:
